A weeks pass at a gym

As a college student, this summer I was able to pay $20 per week which amounted to like $300 for the entire summer pass. This time around (no student rate) they charge $40 per week.

Isn't that a bit much for a weeks pass? I could have sworn I've seen month passes for less than $40 dollars, right?

I guess I'm just curious how outrageous this $40 dollar weeks pass price is compared to the gyms you've been to.

My gym is $40.00 a month with a years contract and a student discount. It cost $10.00 a day without contract. It cost $55.00 a month wit ha 3 month contract.

But then again, my gym is bad ass. You could go to planet fitness and get a month for like $9.00.

My gym sucks ass, and I pay $250 a year. If you bring in new members to sign up you get a free month for each member.

When I worked at a gym we charged $40 per month, but day passes were $10. We didn't have that many amenities, but we had everything you would need; lots of freeweights/machines, an upstairs with classes and a punching bag, and a sauna/steam room.

$40 a week? $160 a month? Unless that includes a stripper/trainer that gives you a lapdance after every workout, no thanks.

I would much rather go to a 24 hour or Planetfitness but they don't have them around the Chicago area really. I have another option which is this local gay little place, but again... it just doesn't have a lot of things and I kind of grew out of that place my junior year of high school.

I guess thats my only option.. ballsack.

They only allow you to pay on a week-by-week basis?

To get the student deal, yes. A regular priced summer pass is way more expensive. The place is extremely nice, but the pricing is a joke.

I'm home for two weeks on break and i am wondering that myself. Does Gold's Gym have any specials for college students who are home for such a short time? I mean, i don't want to have to pay $30-$40 bucks for two weeks when that is the fee for a months' membership.

When I've travelled in the US, I usually was able to find a Gold's gym within reasonable driving distance. A one week pass is in the $35 to $40 range. Not exactly a bargain, but for a week or two it was OK, especially if I was on business travel and the company picked up the tab.

Go to a gym and tell them you are thinking of joining, but you want to try it for 1-2 weeks first.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

When I went in yesterday, I told them my story that I was a member there in the summer and the guy said he couldn't do anything about it because he "ran out" of free passes.

That was last night around 5, I wonder if that guy will be there if I completely change my story around in an hour or so.

    Thanks.

had the same membership for almost 10yrs.. 10$ a month, month to month basis. as long as i pay it i keep it for life.

24 hour runs a special every so often, its like 3yrs upfront(700 somthin bucks) and then its 100$ a year after that

It might depend on the gym. I would give them a call and ask, maybe say another gym is offering "this" or "that" and you wanted to compare deals.

Or try Dale's idea. I tried this once and got a week's free membership, but some places will really hound you to sign up. The one time I tried this and got it, some jerkoff at a 24 hour fitness literally wasted 45 minutes of my time preworkout to pressure sell me into signing up that day, even asked for my dad's work number to get his credit card info . I kept telling him over and over I wanted to try working out for a week before making the decision, but the mother fucker didn't seem to understand. He ended up calling my parent's house a bunch of times to see why I haven't signed up yet. I suggest using a fake number if you are going to fill out any forms.

Was that the Gymnasia at Olympia or Delphi?
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
