I lost track of computer jargin about 3 years ago...Im looking to just buy a full system/pre-built...
dont want to spend much more than $1,000...$1,500 absolute tops...dont need it to come with a monitor...
I put the computer I am using together myself 3+ years ago...it is still a good machine but it has always been a bit quirky and has random ass problems Ive never experienced before, that dont happen consistantly....ect
I dont think I am quite computer savvy enough to put together another computer from scratch, I think I fudged up on this one, and am happy it has held out as long as it has...
Time for a new one
PC preferred for price/performance reasons, unless someone can convince me otherwise with my budget to get a mac.....
I think I want to stick with a dekstop, but am open to laptop, Im not sure if lap tops still have overheat issues, and shitty batteries....
Don't get a mac. If you want me to go into the reasons why, I will, but I think they're a serious pain in the ass.
What do you want to do with the computer? Gaming? Anything that requires a lot of resources? If so, I'd probably get a desktop. Desktops are upgradeable, whereas laptops are a pain in the ass to upgrade. Laptops are great because they're portable, but you're going to spend close to twice as much for the same performance.
What is it that you're looking for? Chances are, you could upgrade your computer to meet your needs for a while, before you get a new one. You're gonna spend a lot less if you build a computer again, but I understand your frustration with it.

I wont be using it for anything special, I mess around in Photoshop a lot, dont do any gaming at the moment...actually never really did for the whole time I had this pc...
I really do think I got a good bargain on what I put into the computer I have now by picking out components one by one, but it is really acting funny lately, and always have, but now so even worse....it sound funny at times, it revs up and slows down (Sounds like the cpu fan is doing this) and right now, for a few days its been running quiet and has locked up and shut itself down...possible overheat from the fan slowing down?
Im not real sure, but when it comes to installing the os and getting the proper drivers....ect it was a pain, and I think I messed things up somewhere along the line updating drivers for some things and not others...like if the motherboard needed them...ect
I dunno I just feel more comfortable with a pre-built machine this time around
Reminds me of when I opened up my box because my computer was overheating. I looked at the fan, and 1/8 of an inch layer of dust had built up between my fan and processor!
I don't know what that revving up and down is all about, but I've actually seen a few computers that do that. I don't know if it's related to the shutting down problem.
I don't see why you think you fudged up your current setup. Your computer has lasted 3 years so far, sounds like you did something right.
I feel your pain with it being a pain.... <-- did i really just say that?
I was lucky enough to have a smart friend who could help with annoying problems like that when my machine was built.
The only brand I have experience with in the past 10 years is HP. I've owned a desktop and a laptop, with few problems that I can think of. It was easier than building it myself, but I did have to reformat to remove all the bullshit they installed on the desktop. Oh yeah and get a copy of windows because all they provided me with was some stupid "restore disk". Do premades still come with all that junk installed on them?
TBH I don't really know any big differences between brands for pre-made computers, and if anyone could enlighten me I'd appreciate it. And what makes a computer "reliable"? There are so many microscopic bells and whistles in these machines, I really don't know WTF is going on anymore.
I guess it's too late for you to get a low to midrange machine for a good deal in the black friday doorbuster choas.
I was in that chaos this morning, and luckily I can run faster than Grandma can.

I didn't realize those even existed yet. That machine looks awesome, mind buying me one too?
hahah that is right at my budget line...pretty much exactly at the peek I want to spend...so its iffy for me....Computers are so cheap now, and I dont NEED a high end machine, but Id like to be good for the next 3+ years....
I havent found any reviews for this system, but Ive read some on another HP system and someone said that you cant even build a pc with the components that pc had for the price that one was at...
Those HD DVD/Blue Ray drives look like they go for $300 - $500+ alone
but it seems they only have 300 watt power supplies in them, and I think a couple people had problems with that, and needed to something more powerful like 500-600 watt, they sounded really surprised they even put that low in computers anymore....
I dunno though, that used to be fine, but now days...?
