Hahaha

I have been sending out resumes and looking through monster and dice for the last 3 days. I have invested a lot of time into it. I saw a job offer for a "research company" that initially claimed they do data mining. I was curious, especially since the pay looked good, and I have a fair amount of database knowledge.
I applied and then they send me an email explaining what they were and what type of people they were looking for. It was pissing me off they they constantly used mostly buzzword bullshit and confusing language to explain what they do. Thy never would just come out and say it. After reading for a while I realized that they are a spam company. Here is the link to their FAQ:

I hate spammers! Ahhhh I fucking hate em! I sent them an email saying that if I find out where they live, I am coming over to their house and shoving their filthy spamming keyboard up their ass sideways.

I'm getting the same shit. I should join that company and then have an "industrial accident."

I feel what you are going through, KelJu. Job hunting in general is a pain in the ass. I can't wait until I'm at a high enough position where I no longer need to look, when the job (head hunter) starts looking for me.

DOMS and Kent, have you guys found any good leads? I'm in a bind as far as student loans and finances. I have been applying to all the big companies doing Iraq reconstruction. The work and living conditions blows, but the money is insane. I figure I should do it while I can.

I've found that applying online is really rough. You have to sign up for a billion accounts, one for every company you are applying to, and then all you ever hear back from them is that they'd like you to apply for x position, and it's almost always non-entry level. I've gotten a few offers so far, but nothing I am excited about. All of them came directly from meeting employers at my university career fair, then doing two to three rounds of interviews. I'm pretty disappointed with what I have so far... they are mostly essentially BS corporate sales positions, some with relatively high turnover. I am looking to choose between the following:
- Supply chain management for a transports firm (primarily trucking) out of Omaha, Nebraska. Training is three months, advancement to value-added services division (mainly third party logistics) possible after 1-2 years. Only interested in this one for a role in their international division, but that would mean waiting it out. The job essentially entails sitting in a cubicle all day on the phone in front of a computer to make sure trucks are getting where they should be.
- Third Party Logistics for a firm in Chicago - almost identical to job above, except dealing solely with the value-added sector, doing none of the actual shipment in house.
- "Accounts Executive" at a medium sized, national telecommunications firm. Essentially a business-to-business telemarketing gig. The girls there are hot but this would be keep me in Iowa, training is nine months and the job seems very dead end.
- Two retail management positions.
Ironically enough, the job I really wanted is the job DOMS wants out of. I wanted to work for a consulting firm in Chicago (not Accenture, it's a relatively small firm), but didn't get it. I loved doing case studies in school and the travelling is a plus to me, and I feel I am good at working around problems and coming up with outside of the box ideas. Too bad the recruiter didn't see it my way!![]()
At the moment, I'm actually leaning towards taking a retail management position in Minneapolis. It started out as one of my backups, but I may just give it a shot while I keep applying elsewhere in the meanwhile. I love this city, but it is damn expensive.

I'm posting on Monster and CareerBuilder for the hell of it, but I'm looking for my next job the way that I found my last. I'm looking through the phone book.
I look for companies that are close to where I live. Then I visit their website to see how lone they've been in business. They have to have been around for more than five years. Then I call and ask if they have a position available.
The fact that I took the initiative scores points. Plus, if they have an opening, they often haven't put it up anywhere, so I'm the first (or one of the first) one in.
I found my present job in less than two days of calling.
