In light of the holiday, I bought Black Christmas last night

The 1974 version, not the remake.

Now I am a huge horror fan, so I used to always chime into horror movie thread over at rottentomatoes usually resulting in an arguement (only way to make it interesting)

Anyway THIS movie came up a LOT. It was said to be the first slasher movie and basically set the stage for Halloween.

Because of being a fan, I am less critical of older horrors than new ones because of the fact that they were pioneers.

However, this one...I am kind of on the fence about. I thought the phone calls were good and the eyeball through the door crack was a GREAT eerie image, but overall, I was a bit bored, but Id guess its cuz of the times.

Any thoughts on this movie? I am surprised its not a movie that is played on TNT, TBS, USA, AMC, TCM etc. I mean, if halloween 4 & 5 are on AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS, then why isnt this allegid, one of a kind movie?

I liked it, it was a little slow in a few parts. The den mother was funny and I thought the phone calls/killer freaking out in the attic were creepy.

Oh yeah, the eyeball was definitely creepy.

Do you know if they re-did that in the remake? That really was the BEST part of the movie.

I liked the calls too. Even though I couldnt make out what was said, its the kind of phone call that would freak out anyone.

    Nowadays, Id expect something humorous.

Thanks for explaining the reason you edited your post. When I saw it was edited, I was already thinking "god he edited his post and didnt say the reason, why?" but then it was there. It was funny too. "Added the eyeball part".

I haven't seen the remake yet, I've heard that it wasn't very good. I remember he kept calling the girl a pig cunt or something like that but the one that really freaked me out was "Where's the baby? No Billy, doooooooooon't"

I thought those lines were better than just calling a girl a cunt. Cunt is always a favorite of mine since women give it power, but for a horror movie vs. a whore movie, it just doesnt fit.

Speaking of remakes...I watched the remake of When a Stranger Calls the other day on Starz. I almost flipped out when the asshole messed up the best line and best PART of the line. "Your blood....all over me." Hearing that line in the original is on par with the voice that was heard when the eye is seen through the door crack in Black Christmas.
