    Dog Day Afternoon

    Chien Danseur

this is kinda weird but amazing nonetheless. i dedicate this thread to the dogs of the world and their unbelievable willingness to please man, even when we are so often far from their best friend.

Bear, an eleven-year old Golden Retriever born on November 1, 1989, was the first dog to arrive on the scene and get straight to work in the midst of the disaster at the World Trade Center during the morning hours of September 11, 2001. A veteran member of the canine search-and-rescue team, Bear and his owner/handler, Captain Scott Shields (Director of Marine Safety for the New York City Urban Parks Service), spent the early days following the tragedy sifting through the tons of debris at Ground Zero. Bear's instincts for knowing where to search were seldom, if ever, wrong.

Can you imagine how many of those rescue dogs at the world trade center inhaled all of the asbestos and other harmful things while sniffing around? I mean the people inhaled quite a bit but even after the dust had settled the dogs still had there noses in it.....and even if they had known the danger they would have risked it anyway, truly wonderful creatures dogs are...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
