America Needs A Leader Like This!

Prime Minister John Howard - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.' 'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage y ou take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.

Mahhh kinda leader!!!

This does not only apply to America... Canada, while quite tolerant and embrassing, is seeing a few years of increased violence and discontent with the current status or relations between citizens and immigrants.

The Province of Quebec has been shaken by mini wars between inhabiting nationalities, to an extent where our government agreed to "reasonable accomodations", furthering new arrivants' rights and liberties, more precisely relating to religious beliefs and practices...

The catch: This province has fought for its current status... In Quebec, the major phase of secularisation of institutions took place around the 1960's. We did not wait for the arrival of the recent waves of immigration to demand that medical decisions, the administration of justice and education be independant of the dictates of religion.

Unfortunately, this is often seen as a regrettable display of racism and xenophobia, most often generated by the very sensationalist media coverage this issue has received, while all we ask for, is the same respect and dignity we give out!!

If Howard stated these things, I do agree.

He stood up to illegal immigrants, also to those that wanted to flood into Australia. And for these, many unfairly called him, "racist."

I don't agree with Howard's labor and worker policies however, and he followed GWB for many reasons: sheep exports and the US's promise to defend Australia militarily, which allows Australia to spend less on defense, and spend more on their own domestic needs.

Now Rudd is in office, and we'll see how Aussies judge him down to road.

There are at least a couple of reasons why Howard followed GWB into Iraq.

Australia has been exporting lots of sheep to Iraq for many years. (Muslims don't eat pork, and lamb is a popular meat staple.)

1. So, to continue exporting live sheep by boat to Post-Hussein Iraq, Australia was requested and advised to diplomatically (and token militarily) to back GWB's invasion.

2. The USA and Australia made an agreement a few years back: if Australia is ever attacked, the US will defend Australia militarily. In this way, Australia is able to allocate less money on military and defense, and put it into other domestic areas. (Australians have often been aware of 300 million Muslims in Indonesia to the north.)

3. Howard seems (well, actually did) follow Neo-Liberal and Neo-Con global policy: IMF, reduce unions, taxation measures, etc.

After 12 years in office, it was time to move on.

Worth noting, the Iraq campaign is not popular in Australia. In the UK, the majority of British citizens opposed Blair's support of the Iraq invasion.

Same in Spain, but the ex-President of Spain went in, anyway.

Lost of money involved in contracting, and exporting. It's easy to lean on other nations to offer diplomatic (verbal) support, and token military support by sending a few hundred to a couple thousand troops as a symbolic means of support.

i think for the world as a whole the diversity of cultures, differing languages, customs etc. make the earth a more fascinating place. i don't think spanish people that come here for instance should need to leave behind their customs etc. learn ours but keep yours alive. who doesn't like to eat different foods. german food is pretty friggin good in the middle of a cold maine winter. we shouldn't hate something that does no harm to us or anyone else.

They dislike our Governments Policies not are beliefs per se. I mean how many Military bases does Saudi Arabia or Quatar have in the US? How many times has are Government been overthrown with the help of Islamic Nations to suit there economic intrests?
