definitely scripted. I gave it the benefit of the doubt on sunday when the first women ran the eliminator and it took them like 2 hours to get up the fricken rope thing at the end, but after watching the men do it last night, now I know this whole thing is just like wrestling. I bet they flip a coin before the show starts and whoever wins the flip will be the winner of the eliminator. I mean come on, it was so pathetic watching these people try to get up the rope with the moving floor. They were falling down on purpose!! Notice when one guy FINALLY got up, the other guy flew right up after him? Like all of a sudden they figured it out? OH wait, we gotta keep them close for a fantasic, super close finish. Oh know, the red guy got up, I'd better get moving so we can have our made for TV close finish.

Stupid bullshit...I won't watch it anymore, not even to see the female gladiators. Although, I like that Wolf man guy. He reminds me of a cross between someone I used to work with and that Eric Stromer guy from HGTV.

Also, why does everyone get to live at the end of the show? Shouldn't that be up to the audience?

Then we'd all really really hope for an end to the writers' strike (hell, we should all be writing letters and helping them get what they want). If this is what we get without writers, I might have to throw out my TV.

we felt the exact same way. The rope thing was completely planned out, someone paid the blue dude to lose or something

It's funny that you bring up the old American Gladiator Show. I participated on the second season of American Gladiators back in 1991 during a college special. They came to the Palace in Auburn Hills. I competed at my college to win a spot on the show. It was a one event special.

I did the Eliminator:

Contenders ran up ramp, using a reverse treadmill (if a contender was unsuccessful in scaling the treadmill after three tries, the contestant would just scale up the ramp by itself); the speed of the treadmill would increase in later rounds.
Cross pit through use of a hand bike
Cross balance beam, where Gladiators swing weighted blocking pads to try to knock contenders off
Climb a 20-foot cargo net
Zipline ride back to floor of arena
Jump two track hurdles, then choose corridor and barrier with only one open

It was very cool. I got to meet Blaze, Ice, Nitro and Thunder (that guy was HUGE). I have some old pics. I'll have to pull them out and scan them. I still have my ID tag as a keepsake on my cork board.

Hey dipshit..... post that shit up.

I really dont think the moving ramp and rope is scripted. Remember in the old gladiator it was the first obstacle and you had three tries and then got to run up the side of it, which MANY people did. Here it is at the end and the contestants have already been it water which makes their traction worse. And there was blood when the marine chick smashed her face against the metal bar spitting flames in the water, and some chick had her leg mangled.

I like the new gladiators, the wolf guy reminds me of Ben Stiller from Dodgeball:

But nothing can top Malibu:

Here are pics as requested.

I'm in the Blue Jersey. Remember this was in 1991 - we did not have digital cameras. The pics were taken by a friend with a 35mm camera.

I won my contest. It was just a one time competition.

The big fella is Thunder. You might remember him

It's also funny that you had to explain that your didn't have digital cameras back then, because my first though was, "That digital camera he used wasn't that good."

It's sad what I've forgotten about days past.
