and it has a certain mystique about it

and it's now legal in the US...!!!!!!!

Right now 3 brands are legally sold in the States Lucid Absinthe Supérieure, Kubler and St. George Spirits Absinthe Verte

Anyway I have ordered my 3 bottles just waiting impatiently for them....

I drank absinthe twice. First time was a little trippie, second time i was just drunk. I think brand is very important.

I doubt it is the real absinthe. Manic is not going to get high.

I think in erowid there is an article mentioning the difference.

Yeah once I get a taste for it I'll probably start getting the European stuff shipped over....

After doing some reading it was found that the original recipes for absinthe didn't have the high levels of thujone once thought to be what made people crazy, I read reviews at several Absinthe forums and they really didn't complain. This American Absinthe is made with the real wormwood and other ingredients.

It's speculated that it isn't just the thujone which gives Absinthe it's certain ability to put one in a heightened state of drunk but also the effect of the other herbs and high proof alcohol (up to 150). If thujone were the only thing then the cheap internet sold kits where you soak the herbs in everclear, and they do end up with thujone, would work but they don't.....

You don't get "high" nor hallucinate, it's simply a different feeling of drunkenness. I notice that beer, rum, wine and tequila all have different feelings of being intoxicated. Wine happens to heighten my awareness or at least give the illusion, rum makes me feel energetic(probably sugar), I'd imagine absinthe will also be a strange feeling, if not at least it'll get me drunk.....

I drank some stuff my friend brought me back from Israel my first time ever drinking it. It was a drunk feeling, but sort of my head was floating at the same time, and things seemed serene and peaceful instead of fast paced and crazy like a pure drunk feeling gives me.

The second time i drank some stuff we ordered on the internet and i was just really drunk. Sort of disappointing really, because i wanted to drink more and really get a feel for this stuff.

Oh and Manic, don't drink that stuff straight. Mix it with water.

You use a special spoon with holes in it and grooves that keeps it in place over the glass. One or two sugar cubes into the spoon. Pour the Absinthe over the sugar, light the sugar on fire and give it a minute or so until it starts to caramelize. Then you drop the sugar into the absinthe, put out the fire and put about a shot (1oz or so) of water. I did equal parts water and absinthe plus i put ice into it because it gets really hot from the fire.

Nope......that way was invented by the Czechs who were selling an inferior product.....

The proper way is to pour absinthe in a special glass with a marked resevoir, then you put the slotted spoon over that and one sugar cube, you then slowly trickle ice cold water over the sugar until it has dissolved into the absinthe. If it is real absinthe it will turn an opalescent white which is called the louche (loosh) and one of the parts many absintheurs claim stand absinthe apart from other drink because it's a beautiful process to watch as you wait in anticipation for your final step in the ritual, sipping yourself into Absinthia....

Well it's been banned for 100 years under the same boogie man stories weed and steroids were under, that it'll make you a raving lunatic... It seems like a step in the right direction and proves that the more myths about certain substances are debunked, thanks to our new abilities to proliferate info in this technical age, the more things will get a second chance at being available unrestricted to us.... I mean look at ephedra perfect example of fear tactics for a mostly harmless product it's not addictive, doesn't make one lose judgment, etc yet they've made it seem worse than beer....I haven't seen any decrease in the use of meth in my area since it was removed from shelves....

I drank the best part of a 500ml bottle of absynthe, proper Euro stuff. I did'nt feel too drunk in my head, but my co-ordination was completley fucked. I could hardly walk, yet I did'nt feel all that drunk mentally. The stuff tastes like petrol, sugar or not.

Later on, after sitting down at the bar and necking a few beers, I started shouting drunken abuse at people, before my friends hauled me out before someone hit me. I had a hell of a hangover the next day.

    A very wierd experience.
