I'll refrain from commenting on your tattoo idea. I had wanted one for years. I couldn't ever find anything that wasn't lame or that meant something to me. I needed a symbol that represented me. I found that symbol last year by total accident while looking at art on deviantART: where ART meets application!.
Life tattoo by *ommony on deviantART
Two weeks later I had it.
I love mine. Its duality: balance of life. I will be spendign the rest of my life looking for perfect balance. The dragon is also eating his own tail to show that he is his worst and only enemy.

What's a "working progress?"
I intend to get several tattoos, might get Give Blood across my shoulders on my back, its a Bane reference, and a call to give all of oneself, also, I want to get a mother orca with two "pups" following it tatt'd on my calf, to represent my mother and sister, and myself, (mom likes orcas)
and Ill be working on concepts and images for a prospective half sleeve for probably the next year.
also: nice ink Kelju, and no Sox, nobody can see them yet.

Always liked japanese cherry trees, considering having a stylized image of one, perhaps similar to the former image, in my half sleeve.
also, a bear fighting a shark, a la the band Bear vs. Shark, if not for the fact that the band is great, then for the fact that it would be probably one of the manliest tattoos ever.

Nice tat brother. I too am currently looking for a meaningful piece of art to put on myself. For a long time i was looking for a unique version of the Yin-Yang. I have it as my avatar, and love the symbol for the same reasons that you put forth. I have yet to find anything that jumps out at me, cheers to you for finding something for yourself, i'm still waiting.
My buddy has a simple tattoo across his back. In fairly plain lettering "Invictus Animus" or unconquerable soul. Thats an awesome one.

Tattoos are for cretins of society who don't want to be seen as clean and good citizens!!! Or at least thats what I heard...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
