is it really bad for you? a friend of mine has been on my ass about quiting. last night i read a few things online about the magical ganja that say it can have long term effects on stuff like your balance, memory, motor skills, sensory perception, etc. i was only like thirteen i think, when i started smoking, and i can't really remember what i used to be like back then (no that's not supposed to be funny) but i know i used to be able to smell. i can't smell so good anymore. i know that i can't balance worth a shit (sometimes i'll almost fall over just standing there), and i can set something down and ten seconds later not have the slightest idea wtf i did with it. i'm constantly forgetting things like peoples birthdays, even my brothers, and i've been celebrating that for ten years (or was it eleven?), and i can't even remember what year 9/11 happened in.

i also read that it can have long term effects on your mood, causing apathy, lack of interest in the future. i don't care about people. i'm apathetic. extremely apathetic. most of the time when people are telling me something that's seriously important i find myself not giving a shit, and wishing they'd just shut up, even when it's a close friend and i know it's something i should really care about. i find that i don't really give a shit about anything unless it somehow affects me and my level of happiness. and the future...i care about it i suppose. i'd like to have a good one, but i'm just floating around like a little bubble.

is it really bad for you or is the government just trying to brainwash me some more?

Chronic abuse of anything will have detrimental effects. I limit things to a few random times a month, like the other night I took a valium of which I have an old prescription and hadn't touched for several months, I drink like every other weekend if that. I have learned moderation makes the experiences more enjoyable.
A lot of people keep doing something that made them feel good over and over trying to get that original experience, but all they really do is cheat themselves to the point where they get burnt out and end up deciding they'll never feel that first joy and then deny themselves of it forever....just quit for a while and then try it again and then stop and rebuild your mind/bodies naivety to it....the shamans knew this thats why they only allowed use of things in ceremonial situations. Take the shamanistic approach....

but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

You're still a kid. So in my opinion, if you don't have an addictive personality, you should try it a few times. I did and it was a lot of fun (chasing quail in the mountains at 7AM on a Sunday morning ). Mind you, I only did it a few times. I smoked a few times and did pot brownies a few times.

But if you do have an addictive personality, it can fuck you up. Pretty much in line with what Manic said.

Also, do not believe that since pot isn't too bad that the other drugs aren't either. Pot will generally only fuck you up if you let it, but shit like meth and crack will fuck you up. I have a 15 year old niece that's a crack whore.

And only buy from someone that you trust. Too many people lace the pot with other drugs.

But you need to give this up when you become an adult (21-23 or so). This has, in my opinion, no place in an adults life. Except for manic. I think it helps him write good stuff.

Lastly, if you already have, or think you have, a mental disorder, you should probably stay away from drugs.

KelJu is going to swallow his tongue when he reads this post.

i smoked way over the normal amount of pot from age 17 to 23 and then maybe average till 26. my memory is shit. i'm not sure if pot caused it maybe some of it is stress but i use the wrong words for stuff all the time now, i'm always saying to my kids "you know i don't know what the hell i'm talking about" for instance i set a cup down in the tub this morning when i was cleaning and told Tyler "take that cup downstairs that I set in the toilet"... maybe it's just that my mind is on one task and my mouth another like sometimes when i'm reading I start thinking about something else and have to reread from where I wandered off. but yea really i think pot probably had something to do with it.

    Sorry to hear that.

It's like I was saying, a few times is fine, but simply put, it's a substance that's suppose to screw with your body. It can't be a good thing over a long period of time.

BTW, have you tried taking ginkgo biloba? I take 120mg twice a day (morning and night). I have low grade ADD and OCD and I've found that it helps me stay a bit sharper. And the stuff doesn't cost much.

I should pick some up and try it. I take Wellbutrin XL maybe that causes some of it but the Dr says it usually has the opposite effect, it is supposed to help people concentrate.

ps... i took a test early in my pregnancy for you as part of applying for a job that required speed. it measured fine motor skills and processing speed, i sucked horribly at it but Tyler tested low on those same things a couple years ago and I'm pretty sure he never smoked pot.

I have yet to figure out why people believe dealers will lace the cheapest and most accessible drug with more expensive less accessible drugs. I have heard this for years, and I have never smoked a laced joint unless I was the one who laced it.

Why give up pot at 21-23 if it doesn't interfere with your life, and adds to your overall satisfaction with your life?

Mental disorders and drugs go together like sex and candy. Lol, if you have psychological illnesses, the drugs will find you.

I will agree that pot can be a gateway drug if you have never done any drugs before. But, if you have already smoked pot, the gateway is already open, and you have to decide if you want to walk through it. On the other side of the fence is a dangerous world, but a fun one at that. Many people never make back. You have to decide if it is worth the risk to you. I have been deep into the drug territory, and I made it back more whole than when I left.

I agree with what the others have said, its all about you and your tolerance for the stuff. If you feel like its having adverse effects (which you obviously do) just take a step back for a while, and perhaps use less frequently.

I've never tried anything more than alcohol, and i never will, not even tobacco products, because i have an incredibly addictive and obsessive personality. I even let alcohol use get out of hand through my early-mid teens, i gave it up completely for a year or two and only now am i starting to learn how to drink it sparingly (once or twice a month at most, and even then only a few glasses of brandy/whiskey/other spirits).

Keep it in check now while you've got it on your mind. I have no idea if theres any grounds for that stuff you think is happening to you, but if its bothering you what have you got to lose by cutting down for a while?

It sounds to me like you want to quit, I smoked every day for a few years and suffered some similar symptons. after I quit for a few months i never felt better, its not until you quit that you realise how it made you feel. i very rarely have it anymore, maybe once every few months if that!

Anyway i think you should lay off it for a month or so at least, theres every chance after that month you might not wanna ever smoke it again cos you'll feel so great. dont let anyone tell you thats its harmless because it really isnt. ive got several friends who are pot heads and all they can commit themselves to is the next time there gonna get high.

You also gotta learn not to over do it....their was a time I drank to get drunk now I've learned how to drink just to feel good no more no less, same with weed you can't keep getting blazed everytime. Like Jim said

awww baby the last thing you are is dumb . when i first quit getting high clarity seemed like an awesome high. and i have more fun watching a serious movie with you when we can't stop being foolish and laughing than i ever had doing pot or anything else. moderation is a powerful thing. as is deciding what kind of person you want to be. some things we can't control but some things we have all the power in the world to determine for ourselves.

    Once you sober up...

Watch all your friends who are high or drunk...

To me, that was the kicker...
When sober and thinking clearly, anyone who was intoxicated just seemed feeble, dependant, stupid, and lethargic.

They annoyed me, and I was annoyed that I thought I was funnier or had a better time when I was that blotto.

    Especially weed...
I HATED having to go to a concert with a bunch of stoners who couldnt get their $hit together.

I was recently re-introduced to the WEED community after many years of not dealing with it at all...
(they havent changed, they are still stoners)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another note, last year I did the Death March in the Grand Canyon
dehydrated and depleted myself of nutrition, and stayed awake for over 30-some hours...

I did see visions, down there, I asked for the anciet indian chiefs to give me strength.

    No drugs needed

First ask yourself why you use the drug, then ask is it helping me or hindering me, after those questions have been answered ask yourself whether going on is a good idea or not...only then will you find the truth within....

I didn't use drugs for a long time and I found that I was able to go to a place within my head much better than drugs could, even when my friends would be tripping face I could still out trip them with my own imagination, the only reason I use drugs now is because I'm in an experimental phase, I still go weeks without touching anything other than coffee and sometimes ephedrin but thats only to help me focus than to stimulate my imagination....I generally prefer to come up with ideas sober and then use a drug or combo to amplify it....

For all you know it's all in your head and probably some kind of hormone thing due to puberty, or vitamin deficiency or lack of good restful sleep.....try quitting for a while, take a multi-vitamin, and get some good nights worth of rest...I bet you'll feel everything come together right away....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
