    $600-$1200 Tax Credit

Anyone know what's going on with this? How will checks be mailed out? I filed my taxes a few weeks ago when I got my W-2 (individual, non-dependant) and my dad is concerned I may have missed out.

Why would you have missed out? Tax deadline is April. I haven't even bothered thinking about it yet - I'll do it when I go home for a weekend in a couple of weeks.

I guess my dad's concern was that it's not certain what requirements must be met in order to receive the tax credit, so since I filed my taxes as soon as I received my W-2, I may have missed one of the requirements that I technically could have qualified for. I'm not too overly concerned about it, I suppose I just wanted to see if any of you guys had more information about it.

said the plan would send checks of $600 to individuals and $1,200 to couples who paid income tax and who filed jointly.
People who did not pay federal income taxes but who had earned income of more than $3,000 would get checks of $300 per individual or $600 per couple.
A Democratic aide and Republican aide said there will be an additional amount per child, which could be in the neighborhood of $300.
Those who earn up to $75,000 individually or up to $150,000 as a couple will be eligible for the payments, said Republican and Democratic sources familiar with the tentative deal.
Rebate checks could begin arriving in May. The rebates would be based on 2007 tax returns, which are not due until April 15.

Well fuck me, I missed it too. I always file in January. I don't know if it would have helped me much. I do itemized deductions for my educational expenses and I get back nearly everything I pay in.

I'm searching for the right info...

    Information on Stimulus Package

    Information on Stimulus Package

The Administration and Congress have agreed to an economic growth package that would provide advance payments to many Americans. More details will be available soon, but here are some highlights:
    • Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending stimulus payments to more than 130 million individuals. The stimulus payments will go out through the late spring and summer.
    • The vast majority of people receiving a payment only need to file a 2007 tax return as they normally would. The IRS will then do all the rest, including determining eligibility and payment amounts.
    • The Treasury will work to quickly implement this important stimulus package. Additional details on timing of the check mail-outs will be available soon.
    • The IRS.gov Web site will be the best source of information for all stimulus questions. This web page will contain all the latest information as it becomes available.
    • The IRS and Treasury will be working closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration along with beneficiary organizations to ensure that all eligible individuals know what to do to receive a stimulus payment

You could get your tax rebate by May - Tax Tactics - MSNBC.com

    Who gets what
How Americans in different financial situations would fare under the rebate plan proposed by House leaders and the White House.
    — An individual with $2,500 in earned income in 2007: Disqualified because income fell below the $3,000 threshold. No rebate.
    — A married couple with no children, with adjusted gross income of $100,000 in 2007: Would qualify for the full $1,200 couples. A $1,200 rebate.
    — A worker with one child, who earned $9,000 and owed no taxes in 2007: Would qualify for the $300 rebate available to individuals who pay no taxes but earned at least $3,000, plus an additional $300 for the child. A $600 rebate.
    — A couple with income of $145,000 in 2007, with three children: Would qualify for the full $1,200 for couples, plus $300 for each child. A $2,100 rebate.
    — A couple with income of $160,000 in 2007 with two children: Would qualify for a partial rebate, reduced by 5 percent for every $1,000 in income above the $150,000 threshold. An $1,800 rebate — $1,200 for the couple plus $300 per child — would go down by 50 percent for this family. A $900 rebate.
    — A couple with income of $200,000 and four children: Disqualified because their income exceeded $174,000, the phase-out limit. No rebate.
    — An individual with adjusted gross income of $23,000 and no dependents: Would get a rebate of $600.
    — A couple with adjusted gross income of $160,000 and two children: Would get a rebate of $1,300.
    — A couple with adjusted gross income of $184,000 and two children: Would get a $100 rebate

People relax! As long as you file a return prior to the April 15th deadline you will receive a secondary refund for up to $600 per individual and $1200 per couple. If you have children you could be eligible to receive an additional $300 per child.

This refund has nothing to do with your 2007 filing. Just file as normal.

I only had time to look quickly - but here's what I found:,

Individuals would receive rebate checks up to $600; married couples would receive up to $1,200, and an additional $300 for each child under the age of 17. The minimum rebate amount is $300 ($600 for married filing jointly). Taxpayers will receive this amount if they have at least $1 of tax liability or $3,000 in qualifying income, defined as the sum of earned income, veterans' disability payments (including payments to survivors of disabled veterans) and Social Security benefits. Income eligibility for the rebates is capped at $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for married couples.

The bottom line: if you had at least $3,000 of qualifying income, you're eligible. Qualifying income is EARNED income (that doesn't include interest, dividends, capital gains etc). If you earned over $75K single or $150K Married, you're sol and it looks like it phases out. It passed the house AND the Senate on Feb 7th. Bush is expected to sign it today!

I don't fucking need $600.00. I make plenty of money to support myself. What I want is to have faith in my government and economy again.
