2 hours per week.
1 hour for Prison Break, 1 hour for Lost. Does it still count as TV if I'm streaming it on my PC?
As mentioned in "Economy Fitful" thread, I am thinking about buying an HDTV, but am really on the fence with this one. It would be a nice one: 1080p, good brand (Samsung), good price (sub-$2000), great reviews, most likely 46" but possibly 52". Cost has nothing to do with the equation; I can easily afford it, especially with Best Buy's 18-month no interest financing. I just don't know how often I'd use it. I signed up for 70-some channels (95% are worthless) cable tv with Starz last month because I wanted internet and they were running a deal to get both for a lower price than getting them separate, but I honestly watch tv as little as an hour or two per week. If anything, I will sometimes download movies and watch them on my 22" widescreen HD computer monitor.
Though I can afford the tv, I know if I get a new one, I will have to buy a stand, stereo system, pay for high def cable tv, high def cables, a blu ray player and movies, maybe even a new couch. I think these are within my means as well, but maybe the money is better spent elsewhere.
With my schedule: work, working out, going out with friends, dating, etc., I find it very hard to fit-in much time for tv. In fact, I think I could easily live without it, and pretty much have been for the past few years. I watch more movies if anything. But on the up-side, if I were to buy an HDTV, I could hook up my computer and play downloaded HD movies on it, and I can actually have people over to hang out (which I rarely do, because I have minimal furniture and an old crappy tv here.. I am more of the type to go over to someone elses' place to hang out). So this is a three-part question:
- What do you think of my situation, and
- How often do you watch TV?
- Can you live without it?

No gym for home, work out floor with 30, but is it for 20 like 30 lb when you no lift it to be for men, for 30 lbs instead? or half is 10 for 20 pounds?
Must have TV must have Internet must have sex must have food I like food food good
A good PC with broadband + home cinema set > cable TV + cinema

I can co without watching TV as long as there is no late bracking news or a good sports event.
The internet took over, if I need the weather it's right there, I don't have to wait for the news for it to come on.

I like having the TV on while I'm reading or writing....it keeps a steady commotion I've found that if I try to read or write in silence every little sound irritates me, of course when I'm in my study I have music playing for background noise. I also watch a lot of interesting stuff like artist biographies on Ovation or movies or documentaries, nature programs there's a lot of learning to be done if you watch he right programs. Of course if all they ever had on tv were soap operas and The Real World, Laguna Beach and that show about the tanning salon people and other mindless shit then I'd but my tv on the roof of my house, tie a rope to it ,lay underneath and pull it down squashing my brains out of my ears....

I am going to buy something smiliar to what your getting, probably I'll see what Costco is selling.
We are both in the same situation, I also need to revamp my streeo system to go along with a new TV.
I used to watch a lot of TV bit the internet took over.
That will change once I get my new system.
I have over 30 DVD's I haven't seen because I prefer to see it and hear it on a good stereo system.
Just buy the damn thing it might get you laid!

I gave my 28 inch to my neighbor 3 years ago. It was the best decision I ever made. I average about 5 minutes of television a week.

I get along without TV fine. The only time I really want to watch it is when I go over to a friend's house to watch MMA PPV's.
I grew up without cable though, so there was nothing to watch.

I download and watch a few shows. The Shield (last season), Dr. Who, Dexter, and Heroes. All of which are on hiatus. The only show that I actually watch on the boob tube is Mad Money. So, right now, I spend about 3-5 hours (I don't watch every show) a week watching teevee.

I enjoy tv to much. I don't think I would fare well.

ya life would be a little more bouring with out the net.

I probably couldn't but I'm thinking about trying it. I really only like acouple of shows on right now (nip/tuck, breaking bad, sportscenter, and alot of the discovery channel) but I always find myself watching junk or the same episodes of shows Ive seen a thousand times. Ive probably seen every episode of scrubs and Im not even a fan.
when mine is on it's pretty much background noise. so, yeah, could live without it

Between discovery, history, DIY, and any number of sports stations I probably watch 4 hours per day. SO HELL NO!
Now for a harder question. Of those that said no, they couldn't live without TV. Which would you rather keep, TV or internet?
I don't think I could go on without internet gambling.
I guess we all know that I game on the internet so... if I had to choose between TV and Internet....hmmm... I would still choose the TV.
And I would have to find a way to feed my gaming withdrawls.
