    How long will it live?

I often wonder about all the different critters. A critter such as this must have a perception of time way different than ours. I bet to them we are as fast as bolts of lightning. To hummingbird we might seem to just creep along. I wonder what the heart rate of your pet is? Having a pet of any kind is great. It gives you a different perspective if you take the time to try to really relate to them. I wish I was a cat.

Don't underestimate the beak of a turtle. There are turtles that can snap your hand off.

We have a guy who brings in his African star tortoise to my brothers vet clinic that he has owned for 40 years. He got it when he was like 5. Nutrition is the key to a long life, the most common problem we see in my work is calcium problems. Good luck

Yup... adult snappers go through wood (and fingers) like they're paper. I believe the one in the video is the alligator snapper (we just have common snappers up North).

Freaking snapper has been responsible for more of my fish lost than I can remember. You pull the stringer up and all that's left is heads

Please don't take offense to this but how is this an awesome pet? You can't train it. It won't listen to a thing you say. Can you build an emotional bond with such a lifeless creature?

Obviously this falls under the "to each their own" clause. I just can't see the enjoyment of being a turtle owner.

No offense taken, and I agree "to each their own". I am intrigued with reptiles. They are mostly emotionless creatures, but still very very cool. I would have a pet boa constrictor is I had my own place to keep one.

I was just reading up on reptilian brains and found something very interesting. Reptiles don't dream. That's a very strange notion.

Around here, they often refer to these as "Cooters".

I have an uncle who was unfortunately born with a Clef Pallet. We would go visit he and my Grandmother, and would usually end up at the pond behind his house. From the time I was about five until I was in my late teens, I remembered him talking about the "Hooters" in his pond. After years of hearing about these hooters, I finally realized that he was talking about Cooters.
