can you get good deals at pawnshops?

I never thought about paying a visit to a pawnshop, but I walked past one recently and it spiked my interest. Can you really get good deals on quality stuff there? Or is it all just garbage brought in by local junkies?

In my experience, yes and no. In high school, they used to sell used (aka probably stolen) N64s and Playstations for $75. I remember most the other stuff being regular price or considered expensive. Why not just stop in and have a look? Each pawn shop is probably different.

Most have a few good things for good deals with 75% being junk like used tools stolen out of some hard working laborers truck. Most of the jewelry is a ripoff so don't buy it there unless you know how to tell the difference. My step-dad owned a pawnshop so he knew how they worked. We used to hit almost everyone in a town we'd pass through on vacation trips because he collected guns. If you want something specific it's best to be in an area where the item you're looking for is used by a lot of people. Like when I wanted a dirtbike helmet and boots we went to some shops near a state park where dirt biking was very popular, when my bro wanted a nice fishing rod we went to pawnshops near a popular fishing lake.....

but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Pawnshops should all be burned and banned for fencing stolen goods

I never walked into one, because quite frankly, they look really ghetto and filthy.

You can get good deals if you know what you are looking for.
