PLASMA TVS GO ON THE EXTINCTION LIST - New York Post

March 6, 2008 -- PLASMA TVs are on the verge of taking the next step towards joining the 8-track and Betamax in the failed technology pile.
Pioneer is reportedly getting ready to stop producing the expensive TV sets because it has been losing money on them for years, while a rival technology, LCD TV sets, are booming.
The manufacturer is expected to report a loss of more $96 million in the plasma TV division.
The company, which is among a handful of plasma TV manufacturers, is reportedly going to stop production of the TVs as early as this year.
Pioneer follows Fujitsu, which also threw in the towel on its own plasma display business late last fall.
A Pioneer spokesperson confirmed the company is reviewing its plasma display business due to sluggish sales, but said that no final decision had been reached

Thumbs down Men Would Trade Sex For Tv

February 11, 2008 -- NEARLY half of men would give up sex for six months in return for a 50-inch plasma TV, a British survey has found.
The survey of 2,000 Britons - commissioned by an English company that sells TV sets - asked what they would give up for a large, premium television. The firm found 47 percent of men would give up sex for half a year.
That compares with just over a third of women who said six months without sex was a fair exchange. "It seems that size really does matter more for men than women," the firm said, predictably, in a statement that accompanied the results.

    Hang on...

Its a TV yes? So its still compatible with everything, right? I may be wrong here, I am not being a smart ass.

To me, this makes me think that plasmas will be cheap as hell until they are off the market completely. And if the infamous rumor about "plasma TVs dying out" holds true, at least I can look back and say I didnt spend that much money.

I was about to post "So does this mean they'll be dirt cheap before disappearing?"

If so i'd definitely pick one up for my room.

I am just wondering if certain other devices wont work with it...

If they can, I cant see it as being a bad idea to go shopping.

I don't think that LCD and Plasma and their components are mutually exclusive like Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are. Both are HD and can be used with cable/satellite boxes, DVD players, game consoles so on and so forth.

You are correct sir, I have both, and they are completely interchangeable.
as for extinction, I dunno, the one I have is pretty awesome. Definitely the best picture I've ever seen.
If the price would drop a bit, they'd sell a shitload more of them.
Hell, my LCD cost more than my plasma, and it's not that much bigger really.

This is sorta how I got my 24" Philips LCD TV for $200, it isn't over the air digital ready so they marked them down from $400 I bought 3 and sold one to a friend and used the other 2 as monitors...this is nothing like betamax nor laserdisc nor 8-track it's more like CRT, same TV still able to hook up your dvd players and everything else so it doesn't exclude anyone who bought one from anything.....

but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I think I'll be pissed if they come out with an ultra cheap LED tv or something like a special paint that you can lay a mesh screen over part of your wall and then paint over it and run a wire to it and have an instant tv of whatever size you want anywhere in your house you want....even on your ceiling...yeah that would piss me off.... and have it detect your presence and have different walls or sections of your hallway painted so that as you walk through your home it turns on and off screens so you can continue watching on your way to the bathroom and then like in the movie 6th Day you have tv on your mirror so you can watch the news as you shave....
