    Starting to Dig Opera.....

So I listened to Paul Potts win Britian's Got Talent with "Nessun Dorma", which has to be one of the most amazing songs ever. I bought his album and have been looking into other Opera/Vocal singers too. I had absolutely no idea that there was some HOT women like Hayley Westenra -

    And Sarah Brightman -

And yes I did find a lot more great songs, such as:

    Canto della terra
    Ave Maria
Madama Butterfly, Act II, Un bel dÃ* vedremo
Rigoletto, Act III, La donna é mobile
Gianni Schicchi, O mio babbino caro

I guess this means I'm OLD now.

I love opera too. I like Paul Potts, but he is given more credit than he is worth. They really milked the whole "I'm just some loser with a dream" bit.
Potts will never touch the master, Pavarotti.

Renee Fleming is pretty hot for an older woman. Maybe I am just in love with her voice.

If they all had great theatrics like ones you see in Amadeus and other movies portraying that period it would be awesome....I don't like the ones with just people singing hardly any stage settings.....

Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Well Operas use to be beautiful and tragic stories, now they are just about the music. I don't care much for the story, I just really love the music.

But it's such a complex work of art with music, singing, drama and visual arts of costumers and set designers. You take away all the parts but the aural and it's just music, yes it's beautiful but I think it's better appreciated as a full course meal and not just an appetizer....

I've never liked opera myself, but I can definitely admire their use of vocal range and volume. Incredible talent. I wonder how some of these opera singers would do in singing typical songs; they never get the type of recognition of a Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey, but it's hard to imagine them not being able to top them.
