    College Bound

Hello there everyone. I'm new to posting, but have browsed through the Iron Magazine Forums for nearly two years now gathering up advice and techniques on lifting, nutrtition, and other matters. I finally decided to bite the bullet and become a member.

I need advice on two things:

    1) What the hell should I do for food since most of the colleges I've been accepted to only allow microwaves, refridgerators, and on-campus restaurant chains (Arby's, Pizza Hut, garbage etc.)?
    and
    2) Any suggestions on decent part-time jobs that don't involve fast food joints or supermarkets?

I'm in California so the cost of living tends to be a bit pricey (not to mention the $3.70 a gallon for gas)

Thanks for the help. I look foward to becoming a part of your community.

You might be surprised what you can do. Buy yourself a rice cooker.

Between that and the microwave (and fridge for storage) you can make potatoes, chicken, rice, oats, fish, pasta. Throw whey protein, sprouted grain bread, and fruit into the mix and you can make a pretty decent diet.

For a part time job, find something related to what you want to do after college - experience trumps education imo.

No gym for home, work out floor with 30, but is it for 20 like 30 lb when you no lift it to be for men, for 30 lbs instead? or half is 10 for 20 pounds?

Thanks for the help. I'll look into the rice-cooker and make a transition to microwaving my meals. I suppose all hope isn't lost. As far as a job relating to my post college interests I have no idea. I'm planning on majoring in business or something medical, but both are so broad I honestly don't know where to start. Plus I gotta get some decent coin to pay for tuition, supplements, diet, and leisure.

You could make oatmeal for breakfast with the microwave and stir natural peanut butter into it for fats. I'm not sure about the colleges you've been applying to, but around here, I don't know of anyone who has had any trouble bringing in blenders and george foreman grills, though they are not technically allowed.

usually each dorm has a kitchen in the basement you can cook your meat or whatever for the week and microwave it. Also alot of the dorm cafeterias in most universities have some healthy choices like chicken breasts/ salads/etc.

Hey bro... If you're in SoCal then getting a job anywhere will greatly benefit you financially, at least from where you are now. Min. wage in Cali is almost $8 is it isn't already there. Since you are getting into fitness, bodybuilding, and making a better you try finding something at GNC or any other type of nutrition store. They are all over the place in Cali. Or go wait tables... Kickass money in that if you get in the right place. A lot of places pay OVER min wage for a good server.

As for microwaving your meals, don't get that confused with microwavable meals. Like Bigss said, if you can cook your meat for the week then store it and microwave it when you're ready to eat it.

Whatever you do, good luck in it!

Looks like I'll have to be a bit crafty and try smuggling in my own grill.

Waiting tables and workin' a GNC both sound like good gigs. Free food and discounts sound like great perks.

Appreciate all the help fellas, thanks.

The George Foreman Grill is one of the GREATEST inventions ever! Definitely worth the money!

You just have to step up to the plate and make it work for yourself. I tried to get the same advice, but realized shortly thereafter that I was simply making excuses and feeling bad for myself when hamburgers and hot dogs were more readily available than chicken breasts and yams. Again, you'll be fine, just make it work for yourself and continue to workout.

There are plenty of steamer bags coming on the market for microwave use; not sure how great they are, but it's an option.
