    "Disturbing" Music

Ever listen to a song that you found disturbing rhythmically, lyrically, or just sounded demented? I was hanging out with my girl this weekend listening to some 60s and 70s (rock, soul, even some disco) on my iPod. I got up to take a leak and came back listening to this:

Turns out she got up to check out my workout music when I was takin a piss. She thinks its the most disturbing thing she's ever heard and asked me (jokingly) if was I was going to kill her in her sleep (to which I replied "Only if you give me a reason to").

So post away music of yours that doesn't quite fit your M.O. or stuff you've heard that sounds fuckin' weird.

I know, I've never come across anything in my life that I've found disturbing, but then again I have a pretty black sense of humor. I guess it must be the sounds combined with the tempo. I'm hoping someone will post something that can at least get me to raise an eyebrow.

And Stanuk that video had me cracking up. I've never understood how people can eat up that kind of preacher bullshit.

I find the content of the popular charts disturbing a lot of the time.

Some of it is alright, but it hurts me that a society thats supposedly advanced will listen to the the Crazy fucking Frog or that "Onmahradar" song by Shitney Spears.

    ITS FUCKING AWFUL.

I know if my girlfriend read some of my threads on here she'd probably sleep with one eye open....

From Worst Way to Die thread
Being skinned alive, and then letting flesh boring insects crawl over your body and you're tied up with a button in your hand that will turn on a sprinkler system filled with insecticide and alcohol. You get left there for a day, then they move you to another room and put you on a table with a slow saw blade that starts at your crotch and moves an inch every few minutes. Then after 6 inches, they take you off and lay you in a box with a button for the sprinkler again with just water this time and they rub napalm over your body and then place a candle on you that will melt in 5 minutes exposing the flame to the napalm, but the sprinkler button won't engage until it senses smoke and once it starts it won't stop so you'll drown.
or I know she would freak out about this as most people who grew up in Hawaii are afraid of the tales of the Night Marchers
Late last night I sat in my den lost in thought, listening to the wind.
The further I journeyed the spookier the wind sounded, I became entranced by it's spooky howls making a whistle like hum through the jalousies. Darkness had descended from the east and all light started to vanish in a blurry, bleary stare. Far off in the mountains I could hear a steady thump of a drum, boom-poom, boom-poom, boom-poom it was drawing closer with every down beat. I became immobilized with fright all I could manage was to divert my eyes toward the sound. Down below where the Moon cowered behind the clouds I saw the trail of torches like a slithering city street, the Night Marchers had found me and they drew so very near....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

My girlfriend thinks we're all bitchy because of the harsh replies in the training section.

She thought the "Bad Pussy" thread was pretty funny though. To which i stressed that bad pussy is never funny, and she rolled her eyes and walked away.

I know what you mean. In highschool it seemed just about everyone, seniors downward, had an awful taste in music. Whether it was repetitive rap, obnoxious pop, or ear-splitting screamo (or that "Soulja Boy" shit that just wouldn't die) the popular charts=shit and people seemed to love it. I know music is about opinion and preference, but god damn it pissed me off to no end walking into the school parking lot where rich kids and wannabe gangsters would be blaring rap and "Soulja Boy" while valley girl ditzes would be doing the same with more rap or pop. My favorite music has always been nearly everything 60s-70s followed by 80s-90s rock. The only recent bands from 2000 and on I've listened to and enjoyed are Tool and A Perfect Circle.

I wish I'd grown up with the top charts being filled with Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Steve Miller Band, The Eagles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, the Guess Who etc. etc.

I've got nothing against rap (I listen to some D12 or Tupac every now and again, or Necro, Eminem is okay) or pop (Prince, Chromeo, The Chemical Brothers, Micheal Jackson...) or any genre to be honest. Im pretty strongly of the belief that theres no such thing as a bad genre, just bad artists.

I mean, i love heavy metal but to be honest im sick to death of the metal scene right now. It all sounds the fucking same, theres little creativity, and its just dire.

I've been switching back and forth between Prince, Infected Mushroom, Men At Work, Astral Projection, Judas Priest, The Prodigy, Masterplan, Sonata Arctica, The Crystal Method, Opeth, Chromeo, Strapping Young Lad, and Wishbone Ash lately.

But yeah, i know what you mean. I think people sometimes just listen to some music because its THERE rather than because they actually enjoy it.

Again I agree with you Gaz. When I was describing the different genres I was thinking exactly what you just mentioned (I try not to come off as a music elitist, "to each his own") where bad artists put out music that disgraces their respective genre by making their music sound like choppy, unpleasant, repetitive clones just to get something out on the scene so people will listen to it because it's the latest thing and they have no better alternatives except what they've already heard. I think the same can be said for the movie industry as well. Over the last few years I've really had to sift through the shit pile to pick out movies that truly interest me enough to go out and pay $10 for at the theaters. I suppose the cesspool of garbage cluttering the entertainment industry has one advantage being the fact you end up appreciating the good stuff that much more.

I am glad that the friends I hung around with didn't put labels on music except bad or good. We could listen to the best of all music genres and never bitch about why are we listening to rap or country or rock or classical. I remember on the bus one night coming home from a football game we were singing All Along the Watchtower, then Beasties Paul Revere, then Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places and being that we were a mix of black, white and mexican kids we all still knew the lyrics...

I was listening to APC whilst reading this thread, heh.

To associate someone's behavior to the music they listen to it ridiculous. That rarely holds true, just take rap music for example. Alot of my friends listen to it and their behavior is nothing like what is spoken in the "songs".

People can use music to get whatever is going through the minds out. There is nothing wrong with that!

I drove down to North Carolina with a couple of girls and put on Tool when I was driving. They hated it. They would rather to listen to country...ugh.

Yeah i should probably say that though i dont think genres are inherrently crappy, its only because i think its POSSIBLE to write good music in any genre.

Unfortunately there are some genres where every practicing artist i've heard are total wank :P.

    This is getting complicated...

Being that i was raised on AC/DC, Judas Priest, ZZ Top, Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy, The Police, Tom Petty, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, etc etc...i have to agree on the old rock stuff. Shit, they knew how to write a tune in those days...

Exactly, it's all gone to shit these days. Very few artists can write songs or push boundaries like those guys did. The saddest fact is that a large proportion of the public are buying utter shit, and neglecting the talent.

For this reason, and this reason alone, American idol should be shut down, the producers all jailed for crimes against music, and Simon Cowell, hung, drawn and castrated......with a soup ladell.

Not so much the song itself, but the video for Tool's "Sober" always bothered me for some reason.
