Laptop issues on start up HELP!
OK, I have a Dell 1705 around 14 months old. When I turn it on it takes a bit to get through the normal start up screens then gets locked on my windows desktop backround image. Just the image is there and nothing else and it just sits there.
I can boot in safe mode and I tried to go back to a previous working image from a few weeks ago and nada. I know it's kinda vague but do any of you have suggestions? I need my porn! |

Yea, he said he can boot it into safe mode.
I would download Spybot S&D and AdAware and run both of those in safe mode to start you off. That will help get rid of any spyware that you have accumulated from your porn adventures which is most likely what is causing this. You should also turn off any unnecessary programs from starting up on boot as that can seriously slow down performance. |

If that's the case, you can often hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and in Task Manager Select File --> Run and type explorer. That will jump start it more often than not.

I really haven't played around in safe mode to know if it runs fine but it did allow me to go back to a previous image to no avail.
One question, am I still able to connect to the internet in safe mode via the wireless connection I have? I really don't have a lot of porn, just a little. Also, I have Norton 2008 running so I don't think a virus is the issue. |

Select bootlog.txt mode then print out the file and see what the last line is.

I would still start off with those two programs I mentioned. Virus scans won't necessarily pick up all spyware/malware depending on what Virus scanner you use.

It turned out to be Norton that was the problem.
Big thanks to DOMS for the one on one! I really appreciate the help brother! Sorry I had to bail so quick like that. You got me thinking about the options now as well. When I have some free time I'm going to study it more in depth. |
