I think some of them call themselves 'Actor' I never understood why an actress would refer to herself as and Actor.

Because the word actress denotes that she is female. Whereas, if she calls herself an "actor" it puts her on "equal footing" with the males. Welcome to insane nonsensical world of feminism.

I never understood that. To me is would seem that she is not really proud of being female.

I disagree. You're actually giving up a right, if you call yourself actor as a female. It would be stupid feminism, if a female in the army insisted she'd be called a soldieress.
