Why are fitted hats so big?

Has anyone noticed that fitted hats are pretty much useless anymore? I guess unless you want to look ghetto, you can't really wear fitted hats. They're so freakin' big, they look ridiculous...I guess the companies have to cater to who is buying most of their hats-but it's terrible.

Why not just buy a smaller size?

The bills look funny on these new hats too almost cartoonish....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I had a similar problem with sweat pants, I went to the local store to buy them buy they were all XXXX large.

The guy tells me that's the style....I told him not for adults. He didn't care.

I guess you aren't very familiar with fitted hats. I'm not talking about the size as in 7 3/8", I'm referring to the entire hat.

They aren't the "pro" hats, but Twins Enterprises, makes good fitted hats.

Those don't come in the Team hats. For instance, you can't get a black LA dodgers hat in that style.

I came up with this process for shrinking the pro hats. Get the hat wet with warm water, but don't wet the bill and minimize the wetting of the crown(you want the crown to maintain its stiffness). Mostly wet the back of the hat, and then put it in the dryer for about 5 minutes. Put it on your head until it drys, or leave it on for at least an hour. If you don't do this, the band could shrink while it's drying and it won't fit your head anymore. Repeat this process until it fits. Eventually, the hat will fit your head perfectly, and you'll have a pro fitted hat that doesn't look like something 50 cent is wearing.

I hate that look, I see MLB players wearing it like that now.

If I was a pitcher I would bean the mofo for wearing it like that.

Ya. It just looks stupid on most people. If you don't dress the part, a fitted hat is pretty much unwearable unless you shrink it.

While we're on the subject, what's up with the new style where people leave the stickers on their new hats they buy? I guess they want everyone to to know how "fresh" their hat is.... Or maybe they are too poor to really buy the hat so they want to make sure they can still return it after use?

That's pretty common on New Era caps because of the hologram. No need to leave the sticker with "New Era" and the size on it though.

It's a ghetto thing, I guess it's a way to show your poor friends that you have an original expensive hat.

I don't want to stereotype but black people like to show off material things.....rims, chains, clothes, gold teeth...

The older white folks are more reserved whereas the younger generation are dressing more ghettoish.

I wouldnt really call it a new style, in the 90s people left the tags on the hats if you remember that, but they dont put tags on hats anymore I dont think, but yea I can't answer the question as to why people do it, but just saying, the tags looked even more ridiculous

    What...

I buy a fitted hat the right size and wear it.

    Done.

Yeah, if you wash it it will shrink because 50/50 makes the hats out of wool... Cross that bridge when you get the hat dirty..

Or wear it to a rain game and let it wash and dry on your head.

I told this kid at the barbershop last week, he needed to take trhe price tags and stickers off his hat..
He told me that was the style...

I accused him of not being able to afford the hat, and keeping the tags on because he was going to return it.

    (Nice)
