It's my understanding, and I'm no expert on this, but HDMI is simply a combination of digital component video and digital audio.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
to improve their lives.
You could always just get a VGA cord to hook up the video, that's easy. Plug it in and edit your computer's desktop settings... it should display two monitors, you can hook them both up at the same time, or one at a time. Most LCD's have the hook up, mine does and it's some no-name brand.
Not sure about the HDMI hookup, haven't done that myself. But I've helped a few people set up the VGA cord, and I'm 99% sure the audio to RCA cord would work fine. If you wanted surround sound, you would need a different audio connector, such as HDMI. But this setup will work fine for most purposes .

A VGA is of noticeably inferior quality to HDMI, no?
Isn't there a type of converter for this? I had to get a converter to hook my HDMI monitor up too.
A VGA signal is analog, HDMI is digital. However, I think HDMI is able to deal with both analog and digital signals, although the quality would not be good. Is that an issue? You would still need a seperate Audio output in this case.
DOMS is right. HDMI samples Y,Cr,Cb component video, the audio is embedded on this data stream. So, the best bet would be to get a video card that does HDMI to HDMI. Very little loss of video signal, but you would need to check that it does embed the audio on the video card out-which i'm not sure on.
Otherwise, a seperate audio feed would be needed from your soundcard.
