Step Brothers

Any thoughts? What are you all looking forward to seeing most? Add on any flicks I missed...

I say the Indy movie tonight. Without giving away anything, I liked it. They tried very hard to make it feel like the old Indy movies. What I really liked, and what shocked my considering that Lucas was involved, was the minimal use of CGI.

I'm probably going to get suckered into the newest M. Night Shylaman film again even though I've been hugely disappointed by his last two (The Village & Lady in the Water). Instead of using that Bryce chick again, he's getting two more popular actors in Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo who he's never used before. I still have no idea what the plot is, which makes it more fun going into the theater for one of his movies. I'm hoping he pulls another Sixth Sense or Signs out of his ass.

My brother and A Black Guy said it was so terrible that it was sad.

Something about someone acting like tarzan and the monkeys attacking someone out of the blue. And, uhh, what the skull really is and who its affiliated with.

Personally, I reckon it will be shit. The trailer does not give me much hope for the movie.

The monkey scene was a bit of comedy relief. What the skull is isn't much different, in a story sense, from a magical box (Raiders of the Lost Ark), magical stones (Temple of Doom), or a magical cup (The Last Crusade).

All Indy movies are cheesy. They're based on the old 40s and 50s serials.

The movie doesn't take itself seriously. They're Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for cying out loud. They know what they make.
I'd give it 7/10 for b-movie entertainment and some witty scenes.

I'm looking forward to Hancock, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Berg isn't bad and Smith is awesome.

Shit? I dont think it will be shit, but I do think it will be just ok. Heath doesnt look scary at all and I think he needs to be cuz Jack played Joker in a more humorous role...at least, thats what it SEEMS they were aiming for.

When I thought about the previous movies, thats when I didnt mind the whole...'out of left field' discovery. Id still like to see it, but it certainly did decrease my spirit.

Just for the record, I thought temple of doom was the cheesiest among the prior trilogy.

Yeah same chick.

I didn't like the Village because it was ridiculously misleading. The climax was also sooo horrible. When I saw it I was like "oh, that's it...WTF?" The film would've been so much better had it really been about monsters and shit. But there was nothing supernatural about it, which is when M. Night is at his best. Hard to believe the Village was from the same director as the Sixth Sense. The cinematography and score and everything was great though, I just felt robbed. Stupid trailer showed a horror movie.

I like that M. Night has made movies in the past not about an alien invasion and how alien's were conquered (for example), but rather what it would be like on an individual level if alien's invaded. These weren't the heroes of the story, this wasn't the president, no one got into a crop duster and screamed some cheesy oneliner while crashing into the mother ship. And I hope he does that with The Happening, so that we get to see what it would be like day by day, slowly but surely Armegeddon. So it could be a huge success or a big flaming comet of cheese crashing towards earth, who knows? I typically am not a M. Night fan, although I did like the lead in Lady in the Water even if the rest of the movie was forgetabble.

BINGO. The Village was a let down on so many levels. Depsite Lady's comparitive sales, I thought it was better cuz I got exactly what I wanted.

The usual response about The Village at rottentomatoes.com was that it was "great" that they were living in the same time frame as us. First off, I predicted it and was hoping for the entire movie that I was wrong. Secondly, that means no monsters and once again, I was hoping I was wrong.

Had I not predicted the ending, I still wouldve been pissed cuz of the joke that was played on me. Its like watching a cheap magic trick.

Wow, he ripped 3 rings apart. I dont know how he did it, but regardless, I dont care and wouldnt mind if I never saw it again.

Despite the previous Indys, I still cant fathom this plot, but I really cant say shit until I see it.

Just came back from "The Strangers." Overall pretty good creepy horror flick. I recommend it. During the jumpy scenes the girl sitting next to me would have convulsions and shake the whole row of seats, scaring the shit outta me.

At first, I thought the movie looked terrible based on the trailer. Then I watched the trailer again, and the part where Angelina Jolie is spinning in the car and picks the guy up while it's still moving made me want to see it. I wouldn't be surprised if it sucked, but I tend to give big budget movies with big named actors the benefit of a doubt, just seeing how big of an investment it is for the movie studios to just carelessly fuck up (not saying it doesn't happen).

Talking about comic book movies, when's Sin City 2 coming out?

Also, I just read that filming on Transformers 2 has already begun. Can't wait for that one (just rewatched the first tonight).

To each his own. I thought it was pretty effective in what it was trying to do. Just a brainless thriller. Great popcorn movie. Critics seem to agree with me as well
