Good article, and I agree. Plus, I'll add some more to the topic from my experience.
Going to a junior college is usually a huge mistake. For example, I went to state college for two years. When I transfered to the four-year institution, none of my specialization classes transfered. So, I had to start all over again at the freshman level of the computer science department. All of the classes have prerequisites which stalls you out and usually means you end up taking stupid shit to fill your schedule to get your financial aid like loans and grants. I needed 132 hours to graduate. By the time I finished my computer classes, I had 160. It took me 6 years to graduate, and I could kick myself in the ass for letting my parents pressure me into going the junior college route.
