I can't get rid of my VIDEO card!?!?

I got a new vidcard for my old PC because the other one was starting to blink out...

I killed all the old drivers (removed)
    switched out the card...
    And started the PC...

It wont get past a certain point in the booting before it askes to boot from CD...

I removed the card, put the old one back in and it boots fine...

    WHat am I missing? (winxp)

I am working off of the old card right now...
shouldn't I be able to just swap the two out without doing any windows repairs?

Change it in BIOS to AGP or PCI etc...?

Did u install it like this?

Reboot comp in safe mode and go into device manager. Remove the display adapter drivers.
Shut off computer and install new card
    Connect monitor to new card
Boot directly into bios and check for "init display device" or something to that effect. Change it from onboard to PCI or AGP (whatever the case may be for your situation).
Reboot into windows and it should auto-detect new hardware
    Install downloaded/ cd based drivers.

Thats a bit of an odd problem...try goob's method, if that doesnt work all i'd suggest is to post the problem on the tech support sites for both the cards - it could be a common problem, you never know.

Are you sure you didn't leave the driver disk in the machine somehow? They normally are not bootable but who knows, it would be quite odd for the video card to interfere with the hard drive unless you have a PCI controller card that you also moved during the install or something.

Or did you unplug the hard drive somehow? In other words this problem should never occur minus user error -?

    Select 'view' > resources by type> IRQ's.

THey should all have different numbers (except similar devices e.g USB controllers and IDE Channel etc.)

If your video card has the same number as your IDE device then you have a conflict. This should show up in device manager as a warning sign.

    OK...

IRQ 16-- was being used by the display adapter "AND"-- NEC PCI to USB host controller B1...

    I uninstalled the PCI @ #16
and restarted... didn't do a damn thing

Friend of mine came over and shut the system down-
    Killed the PWR-
    popped the bios battery-
    put in the new card-
and it booted right to the new card-

    Here is the great part...

I restatrted the system and now it wont work again...
I called him back and he said he didn't do anything but pop the battery.
SO I tried it--- and it doesnt work for me

    WTF!?!?

Do you have a USB controller card or only the USB ports on the motherboard? If you have a card, move it.

Uninstalled> Disabled> USB & VID card... @ system restart, they always come back.

Moved and then removed the USB card... Neither worked.
Would removing all USB connections from the board help?

YEP, changin BIOS settings to failsafe did nothing either.

Anybody here could have told you geForce rocks ATI all day long. But, at least you got it working. There is no fuckign reason to have to go through all the shit you went through for a video card.
