    Anyone ever used Joomla?

    My wife bought a web page for me for Father's Day.

    Powered by Joomla.

    Anyone familiar with this? Pro's? Cons?

    I have never used it, but the reviews by users isn't too hot.

    My wife meant well, and I have no problem learning or deciphering anything, BUT this is one of the most UN-user friendly things I have ever seen. I have too many other things to contend with....definately don't have time to fight this monster right now.

    Maybe I just need to get over the curve, but IMO, Joomla is the equivalent of sitting an eight year old in front of AutoCAD and saying, "start drafting, kid".

    That was what I heard. Powerful in the way that VB.net is powerful, only problem is less than .01% of the population can understand how to use it.

    I mod at a site itsallpolitics.com that runs off joomla and its a headache for me. Its spam filter is awful b/c it cuts out links that shouldn't be cut out...sometimes posts don't go through....sometimes they disappear?

    I prefer vbulliten

    Joomla is a CMS (Content Management System), not forum software like vbulletin. Itsallpolitics.com uses Simple Machine Forum, a free open source forum, which actually is pretty good. Nothing is better than vbulletin, of course, but vbulletin isn't free. If I were to host a forum somewhere, vbulletin is definitely worth the investment.

    When in it's correct appliction, Joomla isn't bad at all. Depends on what kind of site you're looking to do. Like anything, it takes some time getting used to, but it is really good. If I remember correctly it's done by the guys who did (& left) Mambo.

    Apparently I was just a little intimidated by the format...seems involved at first, but after a little digging around, my head didn't hurt as much, lol.

    I have used Mambo, it is was pretty good. I liked the interface.
    Anybody ever use phpBB? It was the easiest forum control software I have ever used. It isn't very powerful, but a monkey could learn to use it.
