Marijuana, caffeine, or both combined have been very effective for my attention. Pot, exercise, work, and lots of sleep have been very affective at helping my mental state.
Also, if it is that serious, you should see a professional. |

Well I have ADD, an actually problem with the frontal lobe of my mind. Also, one of its annoying results are lack of sleep.

Um, marjuana is a stimulant. Caffeine is a stimulant....how would these have a calming effect?
![]() While I think there are some legitamate cases of ADHD, ADD, yada yada yada, for the most part I think its B.S....and a great way for pharmaseutical companies to rake in cash. If you have a problem with your frontal lobe, ya might want to see your Doc. And remember......SUICIDE IS A PERMANENT ANSWER TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM.

however, I was being serious in that MJ will most definitely put you to sleep, as far as it being harmful, I think you're better off smoking weed than using any Rx's that they hand out for ADD. seriously, what advice do you expect us to give you here? BOARD SPONSORS: ![]()

Ninja Edit: marijuana has a stimulate like effect on some people, but it is neither a depressant now a stimulant. It is a hallucinogenic drug with the properties of both. Sorry bud, but you are talking our of your ass on this one. Clinical trails have conclusively proven that mental focus, memory, and cognitive abilities were dramatically improved for patients diagnosed with ADD who took Adaroll and Ritalin. Just because you don't have it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist for other people. This is common with psychological illnesses. It is like telling a diabetic to stop being a pussy when their insulin is out of whack and they can't even get out of bed. |

Well, MJ is a stimulant actually(increases heart rate), but that doesn't mean it will make you excitable. It doesn't affect the adrenal glands the same way caffiene would I believe.

Good point. (Not the kiss my ass thing...the previous post) Although I still think the side effects of ritalin far outweigh the benefits....JMHO.
Okay, I'll be serious....back to this guy's original question. GoLden, are you experiencing "racing" thoughts? Or are you just finding it dificult to focus? Sounds like you're having more problems than just a break in concentration if you have considered suicide, no?

My understanding of ADD/ADHD is that it is associated with an increased need for catecholamine, either through increased production or decreased reuptake. That's why so many of us do well on stimulants such as dextroamphetamine, which act as catecholamine reuptake inhibitors. L-Tyrosine is a catecholamine precursor that is sometimes recommended for ADD. Also, hypothyroidism can mimic and or exacerbate the symptoms of ADD, as of course is the case with blood-sugar swings and lack of sleep.
PS I ♥ my stimulants. ![]() |

Please forgive my impulsiveness and assholeshness...is that a word?. It is a very touchy subject for me. Lack of focus, sleeping problems, being too tired to work out: all of these are a sign of a mental disorder, probably depression, maybe bipolar disorder. The study of the mind has always been a passion of mine, but I am no doctor. The dude should see a professional, but he won't. He periodically pops in to whine about what is bothering him, yet has never once followed the advice anybody recommended to him. |

MJ being illegal is such a joke, this country would be much better off if alcohol was illegal and weed was legal, or at least if all of the alcoholics switched from alcohol to weed. Either way MJ should be legal, and it will be in the near future (fact), and overall its a relatively safe drug. btw, I am not advocating the use of ANY drugs, but to say you don't smoke weed because its illegal is just plain silly, at least have a "real" reason for not smoking it.

I'm torn on the issue, really. I had a long discussion about this with this guy in a bar one night. He just brought it up out of the blue...which I found kind of odd. Turned out he was an undercover narcotics officer. Once he found out I owned the restaurant next door, and really didn't want to buy any weed from him, the other five cops he was with came over, the conversation continued.. Anyway, we all agreed that there (seem to be) less violent crimes, auto-related deaths, etc. due to MJ vs. Booze. Back in the day, the only thing I wanted to harm when smoking was a five pound bag of salt and vinegar potato chips and three dozen twinkies. ![]()

my son was diagnosed with severe adhd. a dr explained to him that if you think of your brain as a community the stimulants are the part of your brain that governs and polices the rest to see that everything is working together properly. we tried the stimulants n the drugs that aren't stimulants like strattera. then i explained to the dr that Tyler is MY child and he won't be taking a bunch of crap with horrible side effects, are a gamble as far as long term side effects, and make him miserable. some of these drugs make kids and adults pick at their skin just like meth users do. Ty said when he's on them it's like the "smart part" of his brain dies. he is much less creative on them. a docile, compliant, uninspired sheep is not a better off kid.
and yes teachers pushed for him to be on the drugs because he is smarter than his peer group and was bored shitless in the dumbed down public school system. melatonin is good for sleep problems. |
