Reviews have so far been favorable. They tend to fall into one of three categories: non-fans who have never read the book and don't like it, fans who love it, and fans who hate it. I'm sure all but the first category hold merit: the movie is supposedly so true to the source material that it can't go wrong, but at the same time the source material is formatted so much for the comic book medium and is so anti-big screen that being like it might be a flaw. I know I'm going to have about 30 orgasms by the time the movie's over. I can't freaking wait. I am honest to god considering dressing up as Rorschach opening day.

I read a review for the movie today. I'm not gonna post it cuz I don't want it to get more ratings but it had me laughing so hard. He clearly had never read the comic book; he criticized the characters' costumes for looking stupid, he criticized how if anyone but Dr. Manhatten had powers they never used them, and he commented how little sense it makes that when one character had to contemplate things he went to Mars. God, if the movie had thrown the giant squid at this guy he would have exploded

In the mean time, the animated series comes out on DVD tomorrow (if you don't know, it's the entire comic book voiced and animated comic book style) and the soundtrack. They'll have to hold me over till Friday, where we're gonna go see it in Imax. Honestly, this is the pinnacle of geekdom.

For now, I think the costumes look cheesy. However, I havent read about these stories.

OMFG, this movie rocked. They didn't do a traditional plot, and the ending was something never done before. I give it a 10/10, and I am a snob when it comes to movies.

I have nothing bad to say about this movie. There are even some things I liked moreso than the comic book (I loved the slightly more emotional/depressive Dr. Manhattan and the new ending was a perfect fit for the big screen, even if it does stray from the original ending).

I am seriously gay for this movie. I would go on with a detailed review, but I have so little bad to say about this movie just think of something good, amplify it about 10X, and I say that about this movie. Perfect 10/10. My new absolute favorite movie. They could not have done Watchmen any better than this.

I'm not a fan of the comic, but I liked the movie in general. If it had been a bit shorter I would have loved it - I get very fidigity after about 2 hours of trying to sit still. My best friend and I went to see it and he didn't really understand the movie (he has ADHD and did a looot of drugs a few years ago when he was in the Marines - nearly killed him - so I expected to have to help him understand it to some extent). I looked to him about 90 minutes in and asked if he was alright and if he wanted to get out (he can't sit still very long either) and do something else (I was hoping to take the dog to the dog park, it would have been more fun for me anyway).

Even though I hate 150+ minute movies I loved the story and very cool art direction - reminds me a lot of Dick Tracy and a lot of Tim Burton's movies. The ending was great and very anticlimatic.

I admit, I still would have rather gone to the park, but I'll do anything to spend time with my boy!

I just got back from seeing it.

    Eh.

I never read the novel, so I went in as a movie goer. I like comic books, so you can also say I went in as a comic book fan.

It reminded me a lot of V for Vendetta. Thats good and bad. Its still fresh on my mind and that too is good and bad.

All in all, I felt bored a lot. I wouldnt see it again. On the other hand, it has a lot of good moments.

I guess I just bought into the hype. When I first saw the trailer, I felt that my approval rate would be what it is now. However, when I saw some behind the scenes thing on Spike and your reviews on here, I got hyped up. Buuuut, in the end, my excitement level was about right the first time.

I agree with Akira (although I loved V for Vendetta).

I thought the movie was good but not great. It definitely didn't have to be 2 hours and 45 minutes. There were a lot of slow parts and the preview shows most of the real exciting parts. The chick was hot as shit, so that saved the movie.

I give it 3 out 5 starts. Decent but I would watch it again.

a lot of people, and critics, went in not knowing what to expect. They expected another spider man or xmen style movie. it's not. it's a soap opera. The story asks "what would it be like if in the 80's people dressed up like superheroes, and what kind of person would it take to actually dress up and play pretend on the streets?" The answer is people with some type of psychosis, diagnosis, personality disorder, sex fetish, etc. Obviously the book does a better and more thorough job of this, but I think the movie did as good a job as 2 1/2 hours can. The opening credits scene, for instance, is filled with easter eggs and "Oh I know what that is!" moments for those who have read the book, and sets the depressing, nostalgic tone for those who haven't.

It contradicts everything we know about super heroes and the genre. I've read negative reviews from watchmen fans and I can understand their disliking, but I've also read negative reviews from those who haven't read the book stating that there wasn't enough action, that the costumes look stupid, that vigilante super heroes are cliche, etc. This isn't that kind of movie. There isn't off the wall fight scenes (although the fighting's clearly been upped for the big screen, and to a respectful degree I think). But I don't go see the Titanic for the comedy, I don't see Million Dollar Baby for the dance numbers, and you don't go see Watchmen for the cool fighting and convenient plot twists. It's the story of these people's lives, their problems, what they do to solve them, and their relationships. And it forces you to face the uncomfortable reality of rape, murder, sex, violence, and ultimately humanity and its nature, which is embodied in the Comedian.

I have never read the comic but, after watching the movie, I know what you are talking about. About a 1/3 of the way in, I realized that it was more a "story" than an action movie. Which is fine! I thought it was a good story. BUT, the movie trailer shouldn't give viewers the impression that this is similiar to x-men or batman or something that was really action packed. The movie trailer is a poor representation of what this movie is about.
