Saw an old (fat-fuck) friend this morning...kind of pissed me off...asked if I was still doing "that bodybuilder thing.." Wtf? Why do people ask me this question??!

yeh, it is dumb.
Out of shape people (friends and aquaintences) treat me like I'm an asshole because I don't stray from my diet and training regimine.
They feel it some how impeads on them enjoying their life experience. It is really weird.

Many friends, and even my family tell me things like they are afraid I am going to hurt myself or some shit.
Just remember that it is a combination of ignorance, and their own psychological problems. Misery loves company, and your rocking body just drives home the point how pathetic their body and health is.
It then becomes easier to think there is something wrong with you instead of them. They are jealous are they are trying to say anything that will allow them to save face. Don't worry about it. Remove their self defense mechanisms, and they would admit that they are jealous and wished to be more like you, but haven't found the strength yet.
“I used to do drugs. I still do drugs. But I used to, too.”
wow well said

KelJu nailed it.
My family and freinds say things like, "your pushing yourself to hard" and bullshit like that

Kel was right; However, keep in mind that nobody, fat or otherwise, likes a cocky assed bodybuilder type. These are the kind of guys who give the rest of us a bad name.
I'm not saying you acted this way, but your initial comments sort of made me wonder.
You been hanging out with Clemson357?

Let me re-phrase that a little bit. By "the rest of us" I meant those who weight train, for whatever the reason. I know that not everyone here is a competitive body builder.
naw...I just punched him in the nuts and stole his first born. Oh and then I banged his ugly wife just for shits and giggles.

Oh so true. I've already stopped explaining everything to other people. A lot of people I know try to make fun of my lifestyle, saying it's not healthy at all and that I'm obsessed.
Obese uncle: "You eat eggs everyday? That's super bad for your cholesterol!"
Teenager sipping on a coke: "What the fuck, do you DRINK olive oil from a spoon? That's unnatural. That's sick!"
[after declining a beer] "I don't know man. You don't know how to have fun anymore."
Sometimes I just can't help snapping something back. "How does it feel to be one-third fat?"
I also like this quote: Obsession is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

I agree with your point, but the average person has no idea how it would feel to be truly lean. Think about it. Until recently people never really knew, or cared to know, what a actual "serving" of anything was because, rather than being educated properly, they were fooled my B.S. marketing, and a SUPERSIZE mentality. Many gyms are focused on membership sales, and count on the fact that most will drop the ball or otherwise fail instead of educating folks.
Many people are lazy, true. Many people make off the cuff comments about bodybuilders due to their insecurity or ignorance, true. All I'm saying is that those who are dedicated to this sport, or lifestyle, should be more inclined to educate people who don't understand before they write them off as fat and lazy. This way, you won't be viewed as "the muscled-up freak whose probably on roids" and more like the "really nice guy who's dedicated to a healthy lifestyle".
In most cases, the most accomplished/successful are more willing to share their knowledge with the uninformed.
DaMayor makes a very good point. Yes, there are truly lazy people out there but for the majority I'd say uneducated. Several years ago I thought a healthy breakfast was a low fat pop tart or a bagel with light cream cheese. It was only then with the lack of progress that I began to read, study and learn what real healthy eating was.
Think about the different organizations to help the obese lose weight.
1. Weight Watchers - eat what you want just stay within your daily required points
2. Jenny Craig - Pre-made pre-portioned meals which leaves the consumer without any clue on how to make a healthy meal of their own.
3. Nutrisystem - pre-made, shelf safe foods loaded with tons of sodium again leaving the consumer without a clue.
Just about any support group/dieting organization still leaves the consumer, in the end, without knowing how to eat healthy.

Exactly but these are the organizations that most obese people go to so they can lose weight. They don't know any better. I'm not standing up for them but I can understand the WHY...........
The only thing these programs do is provide support, which is a good thing, but once they lose the weight, IF THEY DO, they will gain it right back in a matter or no time. Knowledge is powerful.
How about some the news stories out there, ie. Dark Chocolate is healthy!!!! Yes, it is, in small quantities its an excellent antioxidant but a pound a day? Nuts are healthy!! Again, yes they are in portioned quantities, not an entire jar of Planters nuts. Butter is better than margarine! True again, but that doesn't mean spread gobs of it on your potato.
The education is limited when people don't know where or what to look for. Those that do finally go out and read with probably end up doing Atkins or Zone and again, without the proper knowledge, they will probably fuck it up!
Anyone see my point?![]()

My response to a "Are you still working out?" question is usually something like "Yes, 3 or 4 times a week. I enjoy it." and I leave it at that.

Yep. People tend to retain or intellectually ebmbrace only what they can use to justify their lifestyle, healthy or not.
Firstly, people want a quick fix. In most cases a well marketed "diet" plan like Atkins, South Beach, Zone,...Slimfast...whatever, regardless of legitimacy, is actually the beginning of a downward spiral for people if the information isn't used properly.
Secondly, even a diet like the Atkins plan, which was (I believe) originally created with good intentions, and presented in a simplified format for the average person, will always be mis~used because people ignore a lot of important details, yet they tell the world that it is okay to binge on butter and bacon.

It's pointless to try to explain this stuff to people. When they make up their minds they make up their minds. If they ask, fine, I'll open up. Until then they can shove their ignorance up their ass. The change and interest has to spur intrinsically from within, otherwise there is no point.

I live in the heart attack capital of the country and I am treated like a freak by obese people that don't get it until it's too late. Fuck em. Being in healthcare, my only issue is they are driving up insurance costs for the premium paying healthy people. Our healthcare industry needs a serious overhaul. I mean it's time for some radical changes.
