Respect
ok, there I was....
I was at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Co for the races this weekend, as well as SPEED channel's PINKS was being filmed.
Overall, great time, and the jets cars...rocked!
now to my rant:
During the National Anthem, there was some dumbass right in front of me, as well as his friend...as well as others I'm sure I didn't notice who did not remove their ball caps during the song.
I find that highly discourteous as well as rude.
I was a bit buzzed...so didn't say anything...but WTF is wrong with some of the people in this country?
I mentioned this to a co-worker this morning and he responded: Maybe they did not know.
??
He was an American in his 20's. How would he NOT know? Ignorant fuq.
I, as well as many of us on this board have served or are currently serving in the military. I've been around this planet and have witnessed many different cultures, so I have no problem saying that I believe this to be the greatest country in the world.
Is it too much to ask the citizens of this great nation that when the anthem is playing, to face the flag and take off your fuqqing hat for just a few moments?
Seriously....
ok, rant is over....

I tend to agree with your co-worker. Not that it is a valid excuse, but it's probably just ignorance.

I agree with you Burner, ignorance is no excuss. When in Rome do as the Romans, if other are removing there head gear then guess what maybe you should remove yours. Don't worry about it many of us have fought and died to preserve ignorance.

I think with all of the political correctness nonsense, and/or the extra effort to level the playing field between all of the belief systems and practices held by other peoples, the importance of American heritage has been lost to some degree.
I always remove my lid for he National Anthem, Prayer, etc. I don't see the harm in maintaining these practices.

Some people just arent patriotic i guess.
I stand up at home when our anthem is on at the start of the rugby. It pisses me off no end that i have a hard time remembering the words though, since welsh isnt my first language.
Starting september im taking classes though .
Totally agree though, people need to have more respect for what their country represents - many centuries of hardship and sacrifices to get where it is so you have the freedom to actually go out and watch the fucking game in the first place.

I served my country but I'm not going to get bent out of shape if some guy doesn't remove his hat during the National Anthem. I would rather see a select few not remove their hats and not face any retribution for it than to be in a country where he would be dragged off to a slave farm for not doing so.....

If an Officer Says "Gee Son....Your eyes look red, have you been drinking?" You probably shouldn't respond with, "Gee Officer your eyes look glazed, have you been eating doughnuts?"

Some people don't honor other people's symbols and traditions. I am one of those people. I don't have any symbols or traditions.
Should there be a symbol for everything important in your life? Not to me. An example would be my love of my family. I love my mom more than anything in this world. Do I need a symbol to help me remember my love for my mom? No, I don't. I don't need a symbol to help me remember that working hard to provide for myself and the strength of my country is important. Actions are better than symbols.
I don't need a symbol to remind me of my convictions either. I know what I believe, and I know what I feel in my heart. I don't need a song or a flag or a or a cross, or anything else to help me remember what is important.
I don't honor other people's traditions. I don't disrupt them, but I am not going to play along just to make you happy. I will remain silent and let you have your moment. I'll show you that respect. My intentions are not to be disrespectful. I am sorry if you think I am disrespecting you. I can't help that you are upset by my lack of participation.

Careful, now! Don't lump our wholly inspiring anthem with that English dirge.
Why would we want to invoke a non-specific deity to bail out those unelected spongers anyway? God save the queen my fucking arse.

Just like when I'm caught in some event like a party at work or dinner at my GF's religious relatives homes and they have prayer. I'm standing there eyes wide open looking around and some ones peeks one eye open and see's me not begging to nor thanking imaginary beings. Why should I go through the motions if it's just not my way? I believe in loving my whole damn planet not just one part of it. It wasn't just the founders of our country we should thank for us being here it's taken thousands of years of building and sacrifice to get the whole world to where we are at now. I am a global citizen and am proud of the achievments of men and women of all cultures that have made improvements to our lives. I love the beauty of lands all over the globe not just from sea to shining sea.

That is a damn good question. Here I was at the gym tonight when I saw my tattoo in the mirror, and I thought of this thread.
This completely fucked my concentration up by the way. I started thinking about my tattoo and why I got it. I remember thinking years ago that tattoos were like art and they had to mean something to be cool. I then had to question my thinking on that because I spotted an inconsistency in my logic. It is in fact a symbol.
First, I asked myself whether my tattoo still meant anything to me. The answer was a very sad "no". It reflected some of my belief systems, but it didn't have any emotional connection. Even though it reflected some of my belief systems, I was somewhat regretful that I got it, because I had hoped it would be meaningful, but now it is nothing more than a piece of art on my body that I could care less about.
That is just me. I don't really care about other people's body art and body modification. It is either aesthetically pleasing or it isn't. When someone starts talking about what it means, I start to .
