Hillary Clinton's name to be on Democratic ballot in Denver
Posted: August 14, 2008, 12:38 PM by Sheldon Alberts
The Democratic National Committee has struck a deal with Hillary Clinton that will put the New York senator's name on the ballot when Democrats vote for the party's presidential nominee in Denver later this month.
Barack Obama agreed to the move as a way of keeping peace with Clinton supporters who are threatening to disrupt the Democratic convention, and to show respect for her near-victory in the primaries.
Here's the just-released joint statement from the Clinton and Obama press offices:
Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November. They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver. To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama's and Senator Clinton's names will be placed in nomination.
'I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton's historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,' said Senator Barack Obama. Senator Obama’s campaign encouraged Senator Clinton's name to be placed in nomination as a show of unity and in recognition of the historic race she ran and the fact that she was the first woman to compete in all of our nation’s primary contests.'With every voice heard and the Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again,' said Senator Hillary Clinton.
Senator Obama and Senator Clinton are looking forward to a convention unified behind Barack Obama as the Party’s nominee and to victory this fall for America."
Sounds all happy, happy. And there are plenty of reports suggesting that the negotiations over placing Clinton on the ballot weren't acrimonious at all.
More suspicious types are still wondering about Clinton's motives for staying on the ballot. She has insisted it's a way of showing respect to her supporters, including The Denver Group and Just Say No Deal, who are preparing anti-Obama protests and rallies in Denver compaining Clinton was robbed of the nomination.
While Clinton is expected to cast her own ballot for Obama, and may release her delegates to do the same, . there's still reason for the Illinois senator to be anxious. With polls showing him with a narrow lead over John McCain, does Obama really need a first-ballot vote showing substantial support for Clinton?
Get ready for one more round of Clinton drama in Denver.

Sounds like Hilary may be his best choice for the Vice Pres. spot......I think thats Obama's only winning strategy to get the Dems unified or else all of those Hilarites will not vote and throw away yet another 8 years.....

the whole thing seems suspect to me.
I've been wondering about something like this since Hillary "suspended" her campaign instead of conceeding.
I don't really see how this could unify anything. Even if he names Clinton as veep, it won't change the opinions of her supporters that she should be the headliner.

Sounds like they're playing the "let's take full advantage of this historical moment" card. Maybe Obama figures it will be an easier win with a white woman on the ticket.
Either way, we still lose.

If he plans to win he has to take Hilary as his VP I've heard too many times on the radio people saying they aren't even voting since Hilary lost to Barack. I think if she will be second in command all of her lovers will vote for him thinking the Klan will bump her to #1.....

If she were to get the vp, if something were to happen to Obama, she would get President and she could legally make Bill the VP. Then if something happened to her, ol Willie would be President again!!!
