The big arch. To bad you aren't there a week later. The Tour of Missouri will be going on then.
I will be going to St. Louis for Labor Day weekend to see a good friend of mine. What would be some things I should check out while in town: places to eat, places to party and meet pretty ladies? You may be thinking "why not just ask your friend?" Well, I have a feeling he doesn't go out and about St. Louis much, at least not after turning 21, since he's been living elsewhere for the past five years (during college) and just recently moved back. Keep in mind we are two 23 year olds, so this trip will not be as touristsy as say a family vacation.

Right down by the Arch is the old warehouse district, it's called Leclade's Landing. Lot's a great little shops, restaurants and bars. A zillion years ago when I went there was a bar called Muddy Waters that was freakin' awesome. The house band was hillarious. It was a combination blues band/Don Rickles show in that they constantly took pot shots at members of the audience. If you've got a thin skin, Muddy Waters is NOT the place for you.
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???

Cruise on a Casino river boat.... Head over to Meramec Caverns...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
Ah, I heard about this. I'm not big into bike riding, though I'm sure it'll be quite the event. I'm just hoping to chill with my buddy and have a good time around town.
This sounds like the sort of thing I'm looking for. Are there any areas considered mostly a YUPPY (young urban professional) hangout (like Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park area are kind of considered in Chicago)?
What does this sort of thing cost? Meramec Caverns looks really cool, though to be honest, I think I'd have a hard time convincing my friend to want to go there. I'll bring it up though for sure!
Thanks guys! Keep the suggestions coming!

Missouri has some of the most beautiful State Parks. I remember when I was young I'd visit my mother during the summer in Farmington which is about 50-60 miles south of St. Louis. One summer we went to this place called Elephant rock it had these huge granite boulders that seemed like they had dropped out of the sky into this pristine forest. We also would go hiking in other state parks in the area all I remember is how gorgeous they were....It's something you could do during the day and then head back to the city at night and party.....

Head to Alton Illinois, which is like 30-45 minds away. They are famous for their fast eddie burgers and cold beer. On the way back stop by the strip club Roxys in Brookylyn. Thats prolly 20-30 away from Alton. Head on back and tell your buddy you want to go to westport, there are very good bars there. Hell if your in the Alton area, I work at the Club Fitness there I can get ya a day at the gym for free.
Something came up for this weekend and I will no longer be going to St. Louis. I'd like to thank everyone for their suggestions; I will keep them in mind for the raincheck.
I'll have to ask my buddy.
That sounds like a good stop to make and not too far away. I've never been a fan of strip clubs and neither is my friend. Not too many things are more awkward than when you are chilling on beers, hanging with a few buddies enjoying the scenary and whores come by and sit on your lap, rubbing their greasy tits (grease from every other creepy old dude's face in the club) in your face, trying to get you to buy private dance.
I appreciate the offer; that is very cool of you. I know I'd take you up on it if I ended up in the area.
Wish you a good time. If you get lost in East St.Louis just close your eyes and drive as fast as you can. They will shoot you!!!!!

Go Rams!!!

Ah it's not that bad, my dad said he went there in the 70's with a black army buddy of his to pick up some stuff at the dudes house. My dad was waiting in the car while his friend ran inside and as he sat there six thuggish looking guys started walking up to the car saying "what you doin round here cracka?" and other shit when his friend comes outside. They all start backing away from the car and saying "Peace to the Power brotha', peace to the power" He never asked him what that was all about he figured it was cause the guy was 6'7" and had arms as big around as my dads legs....
Oh and another story was when we went in there to go to a pawn shop with my bailbonds man/bounty hunter step dad. He couldn't find the street so he stops to ask these 2 guys for directions and all I'm thinking is Clark Griswold in the station wagon and the guys stealing the hub caps, luckily the guys were just 2 drunks and not carjackers....

East St. Louis is one of the most run down ghettos in the US they filmed Escape from New York there because it was in ruins after a fire destroyed a lot of it in 1976.....
From wikipedia:
East St. Louis has one of the highest crime rates in the United States. According to FBI's data of 2006, its murder rate hit 83.8 per population of 100,000, surpassing that of cities such as Compton, California (40.4 per pop. 100,000), Gary, Indiana (48.3 per pop. 100,000), New Orleans, Louisiana (37.6 per pop. 100,000), Richmond, Virginia (38.8), Baltimore, Maryland (43.3), Camden, New Jersey (40.0), Detroit, Michigan (47.3), and Washington, D.C. (29.1), as well as that of its neighbor St. Louis (37.2). FBI data also shows East St. Louis' high rate of rape, which exceeded 250 per population of 100,000.
East Saint Louis and Opa Locka, Florida have the highest crime rates in the United States (Opa Locka had the absolute highest crime rate in 2003 and 2004 for cities of any population.)
The following table shows East St. Louis' crime rate in 6 crimes that Morgan Quitno uses for their calculation for "America's most dangerous cities" ranking, in comparison to the national average:[7] Year: 2006 number of crimes per 100,000.
