Ants popularity
I dont know if you noticed it but ants were very popular a few years ago.
They were constantly in cartoons, they were viewed as a hard working species with the usual "look how those ants work", they were in movies, music, books. 3D animation and tv ads. Even those animal tv channels had a lot of ants shows.
Ants were everywhere. But then it stopped.

It was a virtual infestation of ants, bees and rats.....I think a kid with a magnifying glass got the ants, the bee's have mysteriously been dying off and the rats crawled back into their sewers...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
