Best fucking movie I have seen all year. I never saw it advertised, but it I found it at blockbuster. I give it a 10/10, and I am one of the hardest critics to please.

the real story is actually much cooler

You know I've always been a good blackjack player since I was a kid, when I was taught how to play I had a realization that when hands were passed and a lot of high cards were out of the deck and I needed a small card I'd hit, if the cards were a lot of lows then I'd hit or stay depending on what I'd need. I know it's not the same as counting cards but it was a strategy I came up with on my own as a kid... When my GF's company had fake gambling at her works christmas party I wiped the table, and when I was in the Navy we'd play on the mess deck sometimes and I was well known for winning. I just don't think I'd stand a chance playing at a real table thats a whole different game....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

You can pay the real guy in that movie to come to you house and teach you. The former owner of our company did that.
I liked the movie, though I have to say I was disappointed to hear that Hollywood decided to cast the main characters as caucasian instead of Asian, which they were in the true story. I suppose it was justifiable, as there were no kung fu scenes in it?

Yeah John Chang and Kevin Ma weren't pleased either. But in a Hollywood where the Last Samurai is Tom Cruise what do you expect? One could say that since the book and the movie are so fictionalized from real events that it doesn't matter but it would have been nice to have at least acknowledged the several asian originals with at least one main character being asian.... Maybe they were worried about people mistakingly thinking they were stereotyping asians by saying they are all good at math.... I'm sure the movie is a nice Rounders meets A Beautiful Mind mutant but none of the movie should be thought of as having taken place in any realm of reality.... I read a couple reviews by actual MIT Reptilian and Amphibian members and they took it to pieces....but I guess the actual story didn't have enough violence nor intrigue....

This was the in-flight movie when I was returning to Iraq from my mid-tour leave. It is a great flick. Of course, I've always admired Kevin Spacey as an actor.

I thought the movie was poorly done.
- Not enough outlining of how to actually count cards
- The love angle between the main actor and Bosworth was lame
- The drama between him and his best friend was even worse. They weren't even in the movie for like a half hour and then they have the 209 scene where he gets the wrong chip for them and then they're out of the movie again?
- That whole put your arms behind your back, look around suspiciously, and stretch thing seemed blatantly obvious to me. If I'm the black guy and viewing tape, these guys would have been caught or at least asked to explain themselves the second or third time they came into my Casino.
- The hatred between the black guy and Spacey wasn't discussed enough
I don't know.. solid movie but I've heard unbelievable things about the book and came away a little bit disappointed with this flick.
