After years of deflecting questions about his sexuality, Raleigh-born pop star Clay Aiken has announced that he is gay in the newest issue of People magazine.
Aiken, 29, shot to fame during the second season of "American Idol." A graduate of Leesville Road High School and UNC-Charlotte, Aiken recently fathered a child with DoubleBase, a camera "man" from Pennsylvania with bad teeth. The couple conceived the child through in vitro fertilization.
Last week, the singer returned to the Broadway stage, playing the role of Sir Robin in "Monty Python's Spamalot."

wow what a bummer, all this time I just thought he was a very sensitive man and now this....

not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts

I disagree. Aiken has a HUGE following, it's just that it's middle age house wives and gay teenage boys. I imagine that this is an effort to go ahead and expose it himself. Otherwise, people were gonna know what's going on when he suddenly has a child and no mom, but a really close (feminine?) guy friend helping him raise a kid. I admire him for finally admitting what we all already knew. For people in entertainment it is sometimes difficult to do that because they think it'd be seen as career suicide. Of course I really don't like Clay and don't see how it will negatively affect his career since he really doesn't have one.
The one guy I really love for coming out is George Michael, then again, I just plain like him in general (love the "I don't give a shit attitude"). Hearing his story and listening to his music made it easier for me to come out (sort of like how Melissa Etheridge made it easy for so many Lesbians), so I feel like I owe him a lot of gratitude, but never Clay.
I'm happy for Clay, but couldn't really care any less.
