Who do you think is the better actor, who had the better films?

This is a very tough one! I saw Righteous Kill btw and it was pretty crappy. De Niro and Pacino were great as expected, but the support and plot was garbage and predictable IMO.

    De Niro:
    Deer Hunter
    Goodfellas
    Godfather II
    Taxi Driver
    Sleepers
    A Bronx Tale
    Heat
    Casino
    Meet the Parents
    Cape Fear
    Raging Bull
    Backdraft
    Deer Hunter
    Mean Streets
    Analyze This
    Cop Land
    Untouchables

    Pacino:
    Godfather I,II, III
    Serpico
    Donnie Brasco
    Heat
    Devil's Advocate
    Insomnia
    Scarface
    Carlito's Way
    Scent of a Woman
    Dick Tracy
    Dog Day Afternoon
    Any Given Sunday
    The Recruit
    And Justice For All

I guess my nod for best resume would go to De Niro. So hard to pick between them as actors because they've both pulled off incredible and difficult roles.

I gotta give it to DeNiro,
I like Pacino... he's just too much of an overactor sometimes.
IMO, Donnie Brasco, Heat & Devil's Advocate are probably his best work.

Godfather films are great, but I don't give Pacino the credit for that. The story is what made those films.

I personally think Scarface sucks. I cannot fathom why everyone seems to think it's so great.

He does overact at times.....sometimes it comes out good.

I also didn't care for Scarface, the hip hop crowd is in love with that film.

One of my favorite films ever was Serpico, I love the movies made in NYC.

The little shit they did to build his persona up made his finale vivid. One of my favorite movies.

    Cool

Both supurb actors, gotta say Scarface, 1 of the best remakes!!! But, I would say give me a million, and I could pull off a wonderful rendition of whatever you ask of me too!

I have to say, having seen lots more Pacino movies than De Niro, Pacino has gotten lazy in a few movies. I was pretty turned off to find out that he spent all of 5 days on the set of Ocean's 13. Not that any of the actors thought of that movie as anything more than an easy paycheck, but he really breezed through his part in that one. You could tell he had no idea what the movie was about, he was just supposed to read some lines.

Pacino's quote on his recent shitty movies: "The worse the movies, the bigger the paychecks. It's almost a rule."

My vote goes to Pacino. I think he can handle a slightly greater variety of roles than DeNiro, although DeNiro is funnier. Pacino can convincingly act out madness, megalomania and obsession. Plus, he's scarier.

I'm going with De Niro, IMO he has a greater range of acting skills.

I normally can't sit through a whole movie, but the last one where I did so was Taxi Driver. I'd never seen it before up to that point, I didn't want to stop watching it until it was finished. Most movies I become very conscious that the characters are actors being filmed, not so much in Taxi Driver.

Devil's Advocate, man. That movie just... man. That was a great freaking movie. Even Keanu Reeves couldn't fuck that one up.

you forgot Ronin for De Niro, Scent of a woman was a great movie, but not enough to put him over de niro in my opinion. Goodfellas was amazing

Scarface is garbage. If you want to see Pacino in a Puerto Rican gangster role, watch Carlito's Way. Also directed by De Palma. Much more toned down, with an oscar worthy performance by Sean Penn to boot. Highly underrated movie IMO. It's sad that Scarface is probably the most recognized Pacino flick according to the younger crowd.

Id side with DeNiro on this one as well. Hes got a much more natural curve to the acting spike.

Id say their best performances were what they won awards.

    My favorites:

    DeNiro
    Awakenings
He really does look catatonic in this one. Hard to see DeNiro being himself in this without thinking of Leonard. Cant help to think he looks totally helpless. Williams was fantastic in this one too.

    Pacino
    Scent of a Woman
What do you know, I side with another dissability movie. This one is great because, even though we see Pacino being Pacino, we think Pacino really cant see! Plus the dialogue is great to boot, but that wasnt his doing.

Me, I need an actor who can look comfortable in roles most of the time PLUS escape into a role. These two got it, but not all the time.

Daniel Day Lewis changes every time hes on screen. Now thats fucking talent. However, hes not my favorite.

I think De Niro is more versatile, both have been type casted as Badasses but De Niro does comedy so well....just like Brad Pitt he does his cool guy roles and then his goof ball roles both very well....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

They both rock pretty hard but I like Pacino just slightly better than De Niro.

Pachino wins because of "The Devils Advocate". That one roll puts him over anything De Niro has ever done.

I remember watching some sort of commentary about HEAT and they were saying that you never see them both in the same camera angle. The coffee shop scene, along with the ending doesnt show them both facing the camera.

I just found a scene where they are both in it. This is when Pachino pulls De Niro over. I took a screenshot.

Heat is one of my favorite movies. On a separate note, I saw Collateral again for the first time in years. Great movie as well, and same director as Heat.

My vote went to DeNiro. I don't know if I can handle another "hard-hitting" monologue from Pacino. Only so many times I can see him shouting at the top of his lungs, just "being Pacino" before they get old. Also DeNiro can do comedy, Pacino not so much.
