Black Hurricanes
Black hurricanes....
A black congresswoman (this would be Sheila Jackson Lee, of Houston ), reportedly complained that the names of hurricanes are all Caucasian sounding names.
She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such as Chamiqua, Tanisha, Woeisha, Shaqueal, and Jamal. I am NOT making this up! She would also like the weather reports to be broadcast in 'language' that street people can understand because one of the problems that happened in New Orleans was, that black people couldn't understand the seriousness of the situation, due to the racially biased language of the weather report.
I guess if the weather person says that the winds are going to blow at 140+ MPH, thats too hard to understand .
I can hear it now: A weatherman in New Orleans says...

This year they had Bertha and Josephine(a black girl at my High School same name) on the list
Next year they have Claudette(a black girl in my grad class had that name), Odette and Wanda(see video)
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts

Well, in all fairness, hurricanes do come along and take your stuff without permission.
Sounds reasonable to me.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something

This was way back in 2003 and she said they should have names representing all cultures not just African-American thats why we have the Gustav's and Eduardo's etc.... I think it would be cooler to give them Villain names Like Hurricane Red Skull, Or Hurricane Doctor Doom or Hurricane Dr. No or Hurricane Megatron or Hurricane Vader
