the government just passed that silly $700 billion bailout plan. now i was thinking the other day, why couldn't the government just give every american $1 million instead? Obviously, it would never happen, but seriously, would it have been a worse idea than the bailout? how many americans are there, 500 or 600 million? they obviously would have saved money. If one of the major problems going on is the housing market and people foreclosing on their homes, I am sure everyone would be able to pay off their mortgages with the $1 million, instantly fixing the housing market. People would spend the money in some cases all of it, thereby helping the economy.
tell me how this would be a worse idea than the actual bailout plan?

Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.

A little over 300 million population. 2 million a piece. Would have solved the financial situation instead of making a few rich bankers richer.

700bill divided amongst 300milwould be $2300 per person.....
But the real problem is they don't even have that much money so they will be taking it from us to give it back? Why not just not give anyone 700 billion and not tax us? Then it would be the same as if they gave us $2300 of our own money.....
I don't know what kind of math you guys are using, could you teach it to me?
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

@ 1 million per person.
At least Manic caught it.
Also, this money is coming from us tax payers, it's not free money. The intention was to stimulate the economy by infusing money into the stock market. Extremely flawed in my view but that's the intention.
eh, I was never any good at math.
I'd still rather have the $2300 per person then give it to those people.

thing is, doesn't an economy need poor in order to define a middle class? If everyone was given a mill (which we've already discerned it'd be in the thousands, not millions) then the prices of everything would go up until a million dollars was the equivalent of 5 bucks. Suddenly the country's dollar is worth less than nothing and the US is (further) the laughing stock of the world, unless we suddenly found a magically infinite reserve of gold, which would then take down the value of any dollar of anywhere in the world.
Note: I know nothing of economics, as is shown in the above statement. I also don't really have an opinion one way or the other about the bailout, as my speculations are just as invalid as anyone elses until one of us returns from our self made time machines to see how things all pans out.
Also, the 700 bill spread among 300 mill people is 2333.33, repeating of course.*
