Thread: Religion equals peace......

oh man...as a Greek Orthodox I have two feelings towards this:

1. how embarrassing...I'm not surprised though. Ritual and Tradition are paramount in the Orthodox Church, but its a shame to see our people fighting each other.

2. knock that Armenian out...nothing like a good ole monk fight...lol. Actually, it looks like the Greeks got beat on the fist fight.

In Matthew Jesus says that he didn't come to bring peace, no he came to bring a sword...... Then in other scriptures he tells his followers to buy swords......

People fight at little league games too does that make little league games bad? Just because some "religous people" people get in a fight doesn't mean the religion sucks. You can't look at the acts of a few and judge the whole group, I thought you guys were all enlightened and smart but I guess thats a facade as well. It's funny how so many on here make generalizations about others and then get upset when generalizations are made back. Idiots.

It doesn't make the game bad but it does make the zeal for the game look bad, they should get themselves in check......

I can agree with that on both accounts, religious and little league. We could just say that people in general need to keep themselves in check.

Well my theory has always been religions were formed to keep the masses in line. Without the threat of an ungodly eternal hell the masses would do what they wished with no moral boundaries. Unfortunately power and money took it to where it is today.

So yes, religion = peace.

Seems like this country is heading further and further away from religion so we will probably get to see if your theory is true and how things go with no moral boundries.

It's a bit different now with laws and the abilities of law enforcement. I was speaking more of the ancient times when getting away with crimes was a much different place and consequences were rare.

religion is not the only driving force behind good morals.

Religion wasn't the only way ancient man kept themselves in check, they had levels of authority like wolf packs have Alpha's....religion just became a tool for them to reign with fear just like parents lie to their kids that their is a monster under their bed so they don't go snooping and find their box of sex toys......

This is what happens when onse emotion gets stronger than actual teaching of god. Those priest are not following the bible, they are just following their emotion.

I think there are two group of religious people:

1. This group go to church because they understand the teaching of god. They practice the bible not just inside the church, but also everyday of their lives. Their goal is to spread the love of god and be better people. Their goal is motivated by compassion.

2. These group of people go to church because, they want to go to heaven. They are told that they will go to hell if they don't believe in god. When they come out church, they leave behind all the teaching of god in the church. They don't care about anybody else. Their goal is motivated by selfishness.

Just my opinion.

Lol that is like a microcosm of most religious conflicts.
