cheap cars
So i have recently decided that I will finally take the big leap and buy my childhood dream car. The 2006 BMW M3, one of the most famous cars in the world, the 2006 is the last M3 that will have the straight 6 engine and I wanted to buy one ever since I was a child (I don;t like the new V8's)...So Since it is a couple days before New years and since this car will only be my summer car and stay in the garage during winter I thought I would get a good deal on a really nice used M3, I got my 40K budged and decided to go shoping...Long story short, I found an M3 that costs only 30K and only has 22K miles on it, freaking amazing...after running carfax, the only problem found is that it was repossesed from some "wealthy" guy who went bankrupt...Is this the reason why it;s so cheap and will this effect resale value...Im taking it to the BMW service tomorrow morning to get it checked out...any car buffs in here?

If it is your dream car, since childhood, why would you want to resell it?
It sounds rather you love the badge not the car itself, otherwise I'd imagine that the car would be much older. For me the 1967/8 Camaro was a long time favorite, as well as the old Lambo Countach cars. My dream car being 40 years old, does not carry over to a newer car (although I have owned newer Camaros its still not the same deal). So, if I had my true dream car, if I ever planned on selling it that would be a very long way into the future. Now for a SHORT TERM dream like, the latest hottest... I can understand wanting to dump it when the next flash in the pan dream comes, but not a since-childhood kinda deal. Example would be a 2009 GSX-R 1000, I'd love to have one but I wouldn't be keeping it for 20 years most likely. I'd replace it in ~5.

Thats what I'm thinking, you grew up quick..... Why does it have to be a 6cylinder and why does it have to be an M3, you can get the X6 and drive it year round just save 20k more. We have the X6 and the 128i coupe the X6 drives as fucking sporty as sporty gets it's practically just an over-sized M3 I took it out the other day to run across the Island to get my a couple links taken out of my new watch and dropped it into sport mode and that fucker launched onto the highway like a race car coming out of the pits. Hell I have good fun in the 128i and paid 36k for it well 26 with my Altima trade-in.....

If you had bought it pre-owned from the dealer I think they have the 2 year free maintenance after expiration of the 4-year original plan on the new car so you'd have 3 years or whatever the milage is after the initial 50k.....

hahhaha...you guys are freaking funny....but yeah, I love the inline 6 engine that sounds awesome, I also love the 2001-2006 bodystyle and the M cars are just a piece of art to me (i lived in germany for 10 years)...I bought the car and according to the BMW service department it's in excellent condition....the maintnance on the any M car is expensive (180 oil change, 405 for ONE tire, 1600 for a 20K mile service that you have to do every 20K to adjust the engine valve system etc.....) But its only going to be my occasional ride.......Man, im so excited my buddies and I used to dream about owning an M3 and now I can buy one just as a side car, life is good......Now if I could just get my cutting diet in check!!!!!

OK...
I thought this thread was about buying a cheap car, yet the first post is about you being ready to shell out $40k for your "Dream" car - ![]() Is there a second question coming about a winter car or something? I was originally looking at getting the M3 coupe and an X5 before we decided to get the X6 and the 128i, I figured it would make better sense to save money on gas by using the 128 for work commute and use the X6 for everything else......but I still see the M3 every now and then and it's a fine car.....plus I was able to get more options in my cheaper 128....

My GF drives a 3 series, dont ask me which specific model..
She has it for the service policy, which is nice... I'm not particularly impressed w/it, I have to contort myself to get into it. and thats just not comfy for me. I have an extended premium warranty on my shitty little focus wagon, so I never worry about service either. And it has more leg and interior room for me.. Ride and quality obviously suffer tho... (I bought it cause it gets 30mpg) Have Problems?... Chances are its due to overpopulation Save The Oceans, Save the Planet, Save Your Family, Save Yourself! |

I'm sure the dealership has given you some bullshit line about how their technicians are the only ones who can service the car. Ah, a fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place... |

Is your a manual or the SMG?
I have a Laguna Seca blue(that different shade of blue) 2002 M3 convertible with black top. Absolutely love that car. No extended warranty & have had no problems so far, knock on wood. I have my eye on the new M3. Have you test driven it yet? Much better overall, especially the low end torque. If I had to choose B/W 335i or used M3, I would still go for a used M3, eventhough the 335i is just as fast.... Enjoy it.... |
