Timothy McVeigh got a fair trial and he didn't try to kill Americans he did and quite a few were children.

Apples and Oranges. The 12 balls he attended was for the Inauguration. And yes, IMO, the Inaugeration was over the top. (I didn't watch it, as I don't watch TV.)

let me be perfectly clear, I don't give a damn what balls he goes to. I just want people to know that if he chose not to go to this ball it was not because of an "oversight" on his part. he chose to skip out on that particular ball. Whatever political message that this action sends others can decide how important it is to them.
To each their own, to have their opinion.

I don't think the President (POSTUS) should attend ceremonies and symbolic events. It's a waste of time.

Of course that is what he was doing.
You think he went to those for fun? No it's all part of his job description.

Last I check he was the "Chief Diplomat" of the country. Which would include the ceremonial tasks.

I am not bashing the presindent ....I do however believe that if it was a viable option he should have attended. It is one night in his tenure....you can talk about all of the important issues that you want to but I am pretty sure he would't be conducting that business at 1:00 in the morning the evening of his inauguration.
