I saw a video on North Korea and they showed a 5 year old chain smoking, the commentary during that part was that food shortages cause cigarettes to be more affordable so parents get their kids started smoking to suppress their appetites so they aren't nagging them that they're hungry.....

no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
