    Comp problems

I recently installed a PC game (Spore) on the comp and it made the comp run buggy immediately after it was installed, particularly keeping us from restarting the computer most of the time (the comp would either restart at splash screen or I would have to select "Load with last workable configurations")

Since then the comp crashed today and suddenly the comp just continuously restarted at the Windows splash screen and wouldn't give me the Load with Last... option. So I restarted trying to open with DOS mode (I clicked F7 I think at the load screen) and I think it asked me what my primary hard drive was. It game me an option of a named drive and "Other." I picked the named one.

Now my current problem: The comp just loads a blue screen and the mouse and that's it. I have found through trial and error that I can press F2 during the load screen to bring up BIOS and F11 to bring up this whole "what's in the A: drive" crap (I think it's called the "Setup" screen).

Any help would be appreciated, and I'll try to answer any questions or specifics if it helps. I have Windows XP, but I'm writing this on a friend's PC cuz mine won't do anything but show blue and the mouse. I feel like I have somehow made a secondary hard drive my primary or something, I dunno. Please help, I'm hopeless and afraid I'm just making things worst

the problem isn't even spore anymore I don't think, it's the computer now- it just goes the blue screen when I turn it on. I've done research and I've seen this problem posted on other forums (seems to be a black screen for Vista, but the same problem), but there's no solutions.

also, its worth noting that I tried to get into the recovery console but it freezes at mup.sys. I can, however, get into BIOS

i read something that spore intstalls another thing on your comp and people are suing them for it

    Spore Lawsuit

Well, the inevitable has happened: a class-action lawsuit has been filed against EA over the SecuROM DRM. The lawsuit, filed by Melissa Thomas, mainly targets the fact that SecuROM installs automatically, without consent, and that EA gives no warning at all that this software will be installed. It goes on to say that this unauthorized standalone program gains superior rights to the user, can effect system functionality, and does not uninstall with the game. The lawsuit argues on the grounds that Thomas and many other users would not have purchased the game had they known about the installation of SecuROM.

Included in the lawsuit document are quotes of numerous reviews on Amazon.com that point to SecuROM interfering with their system and labeling it as a virus or spyware. In the final terms, it states that the plaintiffs are seeking "actual damages, individual restitution, equitable relief, civil penalties, cost and expenses of litigation, including attorneys' fees, and all further relief available" and that this exceeds $5 million.

Now Spore isn't the first game to have used the SecuROM DRM software. The inclusion of the software in top games BioShock and Mass Effect also sparked consumer outcry. However, Spore's targets a much broader audience, and thus it's not terribly surprising that it pissed off at least one person with a strong enough will to take major action.

For those interested, the lawsuit documentation can be found here

Ha ha, dumbasses! They were so worried about losses of sales because they were the most pirated game so they put some sneaky shit in their game and now it's probably going to cost them as much if not more than their losses probably were. What they should have done instead is offer a physical product that they could get only through purchase of the game like a USB storage modular Spore creature preloaded w/ expansion pack(a random generated set of software that gives one of a kind add-ons to the existing game) and have attachments that allow you to build onto it as your game character evolves much like that Ben10 Alien Force toy where you can mix and match body parts to create millions of different creatures.....shit maybe I should send my resume to these people I could revolutionize their whole company.....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Maybe I missed this somewhere however did you try to press F8 and go to safe mode?

Also he is correct. Look at the pic on the hard drive its self and it will show you how to make it a slave hard drive. Add another hard drive and take it off of the hard drive. It would take 10 mins to do this.

Also it could be a virus as well. Did you download this game from the internet?

If you still have the problem after the game is off of the hard drive. install combofix.exe google it to download it and run it on your computer with both hard drives. It will cure 99% of everything you could possibly have picked up. However I take no responsibility for any actions caused by that program because I don't know what else you have on your computer I just know how to cure it. If its a normal install with nothing fancy it will work fine.

the thing is, I don't suspect it's a virus thing but a hard drive thing. This occurred immediately have a forced shut down; I had to cut the power supply because Spore had crashed the computer to a blank black screen.

unfortunately it will not go into safe mode. I've been considering doing kind of what you said: add a second hard drive and make the current one the slave drive, transfer what files I want to keep, format the old hard drive, and then just have the second hard drive dedicated to gaming and such.

My other option is to purchase a new computer (because this one is getting a bit old anyway) and then do the above method but on a new computer. Would this method work?

i'd try n clean up that hard drive on the old computer first instead of risking screwing up the new one.

and then try using this with anything that potentially could mess up your comp

Agree also, becasue if it is for some reason a virus it could get into your new computer.

There is a guy on utorrent right now that has sp3 windows xp pro its called vienna additon. Its a hacked addition, it gives you some neat mods. The addons look like a mac desktop. You don't need a key either. Just dl it and burn it to a cd with some iso software. That is if you don't have a windows cd already. If you do just use that and reformat it and get it over with if you can't fix it.
