The five Guantanamo Bay detainees charged with plotting the 9/11 attacks view the carnage at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon as "a badge of honor," according to a new court filing.
In six-page document, the unrepentant quintet describe themselves as "terrorists to the bone"
and
take full responsibility for the attacks in lower Manhattan and Washington.
The deaths of nearly 3,000 people in the Pentagon and the twin towers was an offering to God, said the papers filed with the military commissioner at Guantanamo.
The charges against them "are not accusations," the document said. "To us they are a badge of honor, which we carry with honor."
The five detainees included Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the confessed mastermind of the Al Qaeda plot. The group described itself as the "9/11 Shura Council," using an Arabic term for an advisory group.
The details of the document were reported Tuesday by The New York Times and The Associated Press. The filing was made on March 5.
In the papers, the group proudly refers to "the great attack on America."
In January, President Obama ordered Guantanamo Bay military prosecutors to delay all trials against the 21 accused terrorists held there - including the five plotters.
