GWB borrowed more money than any president in history

WASHINGTON, DC -- President George W. Bush and the current administration have now borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 U.S. presidents combined, which the Blue Dog Coalition in the House of Representatives called "astounding."

Throughout the first 224 years (1776-2000) of our nation’s history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions according to the U.S. Treasury Department. In the past four years alone (2001-2005), the Bush Administration has borrowed a staggering $1.05 trillion.

"The seriousness of this rapid and increasing financial vulnerability of our country can hardly be overstated, said Rep. John Tanner (TN), a leader of the Blue Dog Coalition and member of the House Ways and Means Committee. “The financial mismanagement of our country by the Bush Administration should be of concern to all Americans, regardless of political persuasion.

The Blue Dogs have long expressed tremendous concern over mounting U.S. debt and are particularly troubled by our growing dependence on foreign governments to finance our debt. Earlier this year, the Coalition offered a 12 Step Plan to cure our nation’s addiction to deficit spending. The Blue Dog plan required, among other things, that all federal agencies pass clean audits, a balanced budget, and the establishment of a rainy day fund to be used in the event of a natural disaster.

“No American political leadership has ever willfully and deliberately mortgaged our country to foreign interests in the manner we have witnessed over the past four years, continued Rep. Tanner. “If this recklessness is not stopped, I truly believe our economic freedom as American citizens is in great jeopardy."

The Blue Dog Coalition is a group of 36 conservative to moderate House Democrats focused on fiscal responsibility.

Obama shattered that in two months.
We'll see if it pans out or not. BTW, did anyone see him on 60 minutes last night?

Prince you just need to switch news channels. Fox gives Obama credit for everything on that list. Ha

Our government just needs to fix the problems. I really believe they are more concerned with making the other (dems/repubs) look bad in the eyes of Americans than actually doing the job they were elected to do. Our government is just one big joke.

I'm going to adopt a new policy. "To change the way you look at things.....change the way you look at things."

Looks pretty accurate to me, the only thing I would add is Cheney's name. In my honest opinion I think that creep had more to do with running the Presidency than most would admit.

i'll readily admit Bush was not a great president. there were plenty things that he did that I don't agree with.

    • First year in office set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in U.S. history.

What a difference between these two.
If you go by stereotypes you would think the opposite.
Obama has been very active, good or bad at least we know there is someone in office.

Point out the inaccuracies and we can see if it false, it does look horrible when compiled as a list.

failed to capture the anthrax killer.
In mid-2008, the FBI narrowed its focus to Bruce Edwards Ivins, a scientist who worked at the government's biodefense labs at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. Ivins had been told about the impending prosecution and died from an overdose of "Tylenol with Codeine," which was reported as a suicide on August 1, 2008.[1][2]

Bush failed to capture the anthrax killer. C'mon people this is something we are going to blame on Bush. For real?

next he is going to be blamed for children of illegal aliens not getting proper vaccines. lets try and limit the list to things he had control over.

im getting tired of attacking this list. Bush is not a great president. i readily accept this. but it would be nice if this public back lash against bush was tempered a little bit with reality.

Among the top givers, most of the top 20 are favoring Democrats — a big shift from previous cycles, according to Ritsch.

If it seems like they're covering their bases, they are, says Ritsch.

yea, i think calling FEMA a secret shadow organization, and blaming it's creation on Bush is a little far fetched.

I don't like the list. it is not judgmental in any shape or form. an accurate list could be created that would paint bush in a bad light. i don't argue that point, but this list wasn't made for that purpose. This list was made by some ridiculous conspiracy buff because he knew most people wouldn't look at it abjectly.

U.S. Inquiry Tried, but Failed, to Link Iraq to Anthrax Attack

By WILLIAM J. BROAD with DAVID JOHNSTON

Shortly after the first anthrax victim died in October, the Bush administration began an intense effort to explore any possible link between Iraq and the attacks and continued to do so even after scientists determined that the lethal germ was an American strain, scientists and government officials said.

But they said that largely secret work had found no evidence to back up the initial suspicions, which is one reason administration officials have said recently that the source of the anthrax was most likely domestic.

For months, intelligence agencies searched for Iraqi fingerprints and scientists investigated whether Baghdad had somehow obtained the so-called Ames strain of anthrax. Scientists also repeatedly analyzed the powder from the anthrax-laced envelopes for signs of chemical additives that would point to Iraq.
Maybe because we went to the wrong place....damn it was costly...
