    2 serious/non-sarcastic questions

    1. I need to locate the drivers for a Emachine model T2984 serial number:XAT4A 20019151. This company has to have the worst tech support/web support than any other PC company i've dealt with.

    2. How would a person maximize a FAFSA loan ? Claim they are going to live on campus ? claim they live with there parents, etc.... I know I don't qualify for any type of grants.

My private loans just went up to 8.9% interest. I have credit cards with lower interest rates.

This is a no funny thread.

eMachines don't come with install discs, but there should have been a restore disc, which would take the machine back to "factory" condition -- including all the bloatware but that's another issue. Usually there's also "hidden" recovery right on the harddrive. That usually appears as another very small drive.

If you don't have the original recovery disc and you've wiped out the recovery that's on the harddrive by using your own xp disc, it can be a little more difficult to find the drivers, etc.

The motherboard for the t2984 is a SEABREEZE T3 according to the eMachines Parts Depot: eMachines Parts Depot - Replacement and Upgrade Parts Center. That and maybe this page, http://emachines.com/support/product...es&model=T2984 might be a help on the audio (AC '97), video (Intel Extreme) and ethernet(Intel PRO) drivers As far as support, have you tried the live online tech support? I know their support can be a hassle, believe me. But it may be worth a try even if you've been through it before. Never know when you'll get the right person.

    Good luck!

I don't have any of the original software. I couple years ago I tried the online support and if i'm not mistaken they told me the warranty was out so they couldn't help. Which is understandable since the computer is around 8 yrs old.

I haven't formatted the hard drive yet I guess I could just copy the current drivers and reinstall.

Do you know all the vital info I'll need to save before I format ?

    thank you

I wouldn't touch anything on that machine unless it is absolutely necessary. A machine that old might go flop if you try reformatting or messing with anything else on it, it's like Jenga the longer it's been going the more wobbly it is and if you pull the wrong block the whole thing will come crashing down, hell the might be a bread crumb on the table keeping it just balanced and if you take it down you'll never get it back up cause that breadcrumb is gonna blow away.......

I'll just have to take the chance. If it doesn't work out i'll just use it for spare parts. I would just let it be but it crashes on a regular basis. Blue screen: Dumping Physical Memory. Whatever that means.

I thought about fixing it and taking it to work.

Finding the drivers will be a pain in the ass. Don't even consider formatting without drivers.

Finding them for an emachine is. I've never had a problem finding gateway or mac software.

I have an ancient emachines that still works like a dream, it's a 533 running winxp and linux. I use it as a sacrificial lamb when downloading shit. I pull them down on my main box because it's faster, then I put them in a portable drive and open them with that machine, then I run anti-virus scans.....even though I've not yet had a virus or any other problem it's still my preferred way ever since my Napster, Morpheus Limewire days......

I had to find the drivers at the mobo makers website, and I also found some for another emachines at driverguide.com or some website like that before

I have to agree with this. I've never had this much trouble with a PC and i've owned several. I may have to swallow my pride and take it to one of those PC repair shops. I assume eventually I would be able to work through the problem but it's just too annoying. I found the drivers, I think, but can't get them to install. Just doesn't make any sense.
