Same shit happened to me with my car last year. Expect my dog woke me up. Good luck

To make a long story short.
I was watching baseball (Extra Innings is free this week) and hanging out with my roommates all night in my living room which is located right next to the front door.
Around 1AM, my girlfriend calls me to go pick her up, I come back shortly thereafter and just decide to leave my computer in the living room and head to bed with her.
Around 445AM, my girlfriend wakes me up complaining that she heard something in the other room and was scared.
I get up, still dazed and confused and walk into my living room. The light had been turned on even though I vividly remember turning it off and my computer isn't where I had last left it, so I run outside.
I see some big huge nig about fifty yards from my house approaching a wooded area near my house. I start shouting at him calling him a motherfucker, telling I'm going to kill him and the usual soxmuscle insults I use when extremely angered.
I run on my driveway, but realize I'm not going to be able to chase after him with only boxers on (no shoes). So I run back inside, grab a t-shirt, a pair of shorts and my shoes and start sprinting after him.
He's farther away from my house but still only walking briskly --the only reason he wasn't running, IMO is because he was physically unable to with all the shit he stole-- so I run after him and am close to catching up to him but then he enters the woods. I run back to my house, grab a golf club, wake all of my roommates up and head back outside to try and take matters into my own hands.
By this time (a matter of five minutes, possibly less), the guy is completely out of sight and my roommates and girlfriend advise me not to go looking for him.
I call the police, they come to our house. As they're coming, we realize that also missing from our living room is our Xbox360, two controllers, a couple of games, an Ipod docking speaker system, an Ipod and my Ipod shuffle charger.
The police show up, go through the the usual (give me a description, what'd he take, etc.) stuff and inform us that the only way we're going to get those items back are if this guy is stopped this morning (which he wasn't) or if he's pulled over for a random traffic stop and they find the items in his car.
So I guess I won't be posting until I get this computer situation resolved, which probably is a good thing for some of you.
Good luck, I love you, and fuck my life.

that really sucks!
do you have renters insurance? if so they will cover all the stolen items, if not I suggest you look into, it's about $10/month.
Did you call microsoft to have them block your live account in case he tried using it/purchasing crap with it?

It sure does.
That laptop was like the first big purchase of my life. Sure, I've gotten other nice things but to have saved up $2000 dollars only to see it taken really chaps my ass.
It just sucks that they can't do anything about it.
Yea, I'm going to look into it and see if I have renters insurance but I'm pretty sure we don't.
One of my neighbors was telling me to tell the insurance company that this incident happened at my house at home where I definitely have insurance, but I really don't want to get into some insurance fraud bullshit over this incident.
The end result will most likely be me losing a bunch of stuff, which seems right on par with the way things are going these days.

Motherfucker! Your story pisses me off!
Dude, that really sucks man! But in no way should you say your life sucks. My car was stolen from in front of my house and I never was able to recover it, that was probably a good thing.
Shit like this happens to the best of people, just be glad you or your girlfriend weren't hurt in any way!
Best of luck to you Sox, we love you too.
The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.

What's Live?
But no I didn't.
I was thinking about things he could possibly get into on my lap top and I'm not sure there is anything that's saved on that computer other than my log in here and on a couple other boards.
I'd love to see the motherfucker post on this board though

I know, I know.
I should just be happy that I'm safe and not dead lying face down in the woods or something, but fuck..
For months I'm going to think about what I would have/could have/should have done about this situation.
Hindsights always 20/20 but if this dude has a knife, I'll take my chances with me and my seven iron. If he's got a gun, well then I'm dead.

I've mainly been focused on my lap top here this morning/afternoon, but I'll definitely tell my roommate to do so.
The guy can go on Xbox live and purchase stuff using the credit card he bought the live with? Interesting - I'm not much of a gamer anymore so I don't know these things.

How big was the thief? Did you get a good look?

Look into Truecrypt with your next laptop. TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux
It has full system encryption for free. Invaluable.

One of my roommates was at the library until 3:30 so we left it open and he just forgot to lock it when he got home.
I'd say we lock our door about 50% of the time, but it really never seemed necessary in this town. The only crimes committed in this town, if you can even call it that, is drunkenness.

Sorry to hear it, man. It was probably a Yankee fan. They are all criminals.
A few weeks ago my car got broken into in our "secure" () parking garage at work. They smashed the drivers side window and stole the Sirius radio from the dashboard, so I promptly called Sirius and reported the radio stolen. Fucking idiot won't be able to use it, and they left my ipod, cell phone, and $160 sunglasses behind.
I wanted to upgrade the radio anyway.![]()

Some dumbass kids broke into my old Honda Civic, disabled the alarm which disabled the ignition so they couldn't steal it, but they busted the steering column anyway, when they realized they couldn't steal the car they pulled everything from the glove compartment, took the digital tire gauge, some burned cd's in a cheap case and a flashlight... These were complete idiots because they left behind my MP3 player and the FM Transmitter, there was 6 dollars in the cup holder they failed to see as well..... they left greasy fingerprints on the hood after failing to steal the battery...... The cop who came said it was the sloppiest attempt he had ever seen, but that I was lucky they were able to slim jim the lock and not bust my window like the cop said they had done a week earlier up the street from me......

not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

All I know is that if someone comes inside my house my Belgian will throw her body into the gate that keeps them in the hallway, bust it down, take two galloping steps and then jump 10 feet through the air and ruin their life........I know because when I left for 2 days on a trip and came home she was so excited to see me she did exactly that but I caught her in my arms and she slobbered my face to death.... I've also snuck in before with a hat covering my face and she charged but I went "AHAAAA!!!! and showed my face right before she lunged at me and she stopped and started wagging her tail.......dogs are great theft deterrents....

as bad as that sucks for you , you should be grateful that he only took the computer. He could have killed you both before you knew he was even in the house.

sorryand get a dog. even a tiny chihuahua's barking will keep a thief away and/or alert everyone within earshot.
maybe call every pawnshop in your area and describe the items?
Don't look back ~ You're not going that way!

as a kid i remember we got robbed like 3 or 4 times.
one time my dad caught the thief, and he beat him so much he nearly died. lol.
