For the longest time I didn't think math belonged in music and I shrugged off all of the orthodox ways because I just wanted to play the blues and jazz, but this guy, Howard Goodall has a show called Big Bangs of Music in which he explains things like notes and scales and chords and temperament, so on and so on and now I am addicted, in fact I have started actually hearing notes in everything and their natural harmonics......I think the sound of our work phone is A......
The way this guy teaches really strikes a chord, here are some videos I found.....
If you guys know of any other music folks with vids like this I'd appreciate being introduced to their method of teaching as well, thanks.....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.

Yes, any thing about learning music is great for me right now, I'd dabbled with plucking my guitars for 15 years but never put much effort into it now I am totally dedicated to perfecting it, I can handle an axe well, I can bend two notes, have great vibrato technique, know some scales....but now I want to master it, and also learn how to play other instruments, and how to read/write music..... I had been placed in a Magnet school for gifted and talented students that focused on art, music and writing for a couple of years so I have some of the knowledge ingrained..... Howard's videos have lifted all of that to the surface and now I'm amped to figure it all out.....

I finished the Melody series last night and it was so awesome learning not only the theory of music but the history. I never knew their was a relationship between English Tudor music and the Blues, plus the lesson on the BLUE Note was the best explanation I have ever heard...... I highly recommend these videos to everyone not just those interested in music. I have begun listening to music in a whole different frame of mind.....
