    Tailoring Clothing

I have never had anything outside of suit pants tailored before. However, I have been giving it more thought lately and am considering having two of my favorite dress shirts and a suit coat tailored to be more fitted. Primary purpose would be for special occasions and work-related purposes (important presentation, supplier visit, job interview, etc.).

Just wondering how many of you guys have had your clothing tailored and do you feel it worth the money? I would think bodybuilders more than anyone would have interest in having it done.

    I get everything tailored.

Women's clothing is NOT designed for bodybuilders.

I even get my jeans tailored.

You definitely will not regret the investment. The devil is in the details, and the difference between a sports jacket that fits you and one that doesn't is noticeable. The first impression that you'll give off by dressing properly will definitely benefit you. Get as much tailored as you can afford, and when purchasing new articles, I'd recommend including the cost of tailoring into your budget. A $500 suit that fits you will look infinitely better than a $3000 Prada that doesnt.

I started using a tailor a few years ago and really like it. I found a good one.

But I'm in a different situation as in Asia you cannot really find things that fit good off of the rack for a Westerner. We are taller, thicker, and wider. If your built, tall, or have a different body shape, I think tailor made can really be the way to do.

34x31 pants would usually be idea for me but they only usually come in 30 or 32 so I buy the 32 and get them hemmed, other than that I usually only buy shirts that look good when I first try them on so I've never needed tailoring.....

Most shirts that fit me good in the neck, must be taylored or they are too big at the waist. I like for them to fit snug around the waist and not bunch up.

All my suits are tailored to fit, so that they'll have that fitted look. One must always have a natty attire.

Anyone else find that they have to buy large/XL t-shirts to fit their upper body, yet they end up being far too long? I dont know, must be designed to accomodate a huge gut.....

Good luck ever finding a suit on the rack that's made for a man who's chest measurement is larger than his waist measurement. American suits are made for walking tubs of lard. If you don't get them tailored you end up looking like you're wearing a burlap sack. Around here, the only place where I can find off the rack suits that even come close to fitting me is at Men's Warehouse. They came out with an "Athletic Cut" line and it's much easier to get one of those tailored to fit me than a regular one.

And like was pointed out earlier, just try and find a shirt with a 19 neck that doesn't look like a circus tent.

These are the issues I am running into.

Seems tailoring a dress shirt can sometimes cost as much as the shirt itself! If you don't buy the shirt at the place that offers the tailoring, prices seem to be double. I want to be able to tailor shirts that can't be bought at the places doing the tailoring (for example, Men's Warehouse does not sell Hugo Boss and I wouldn't spend $25 to tailor a Calvin Klein dress shirt I got on sale for $30).

What do you guys tend to pay for dress shirts and suit coats? Best deal I got for a pair of dress pants was $12/ea to have waist and length tailored.

If I had the money, maybe. Right now I am just glad to have two work shirts that fit me. Wearing white collar cloths sucks.

Ready made's fit me fine but I do love the tailored ones....they are so personal.

Okay, so I checked prices at two places and it seems tailoring is not as expensive as I originally thought. At Men's Warehouse, it's $12 if you buy the shirt there; $16 if you don't. A suit coat is a little over $25. Pretty reasonable. I'm going to have a few dress shirts done after I finish my cut.

Just wanted to correct myself before someone else did .

The little Japanese man in the Alteration shop 6 streets down from mine does pants for $5-8 depending on fabric and the couple shirts I brought in were $8, but then I usually tip him $5-10..... I guess living in Hawaii there seems to be a lot of these little shops where the old person just doesn't want to stop working....

I miss the little old lady who used to cut my hair with scissors and shave my neck with a straight razor, then shave my face with real foam.......
