Rush to Powell: Go be a Democrat

Rush to Powell: Go be a Democrat - Andy Barr - POLITICO.com

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday that if former Secretary of State Colin Powell is going to keep criticizing the GOP, he may as well leave the party and become a Democrat—adding that Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama was “purely and solely based on race.”

“He's just mad at me because I’m the one person in the country that had the guts to explain his endorsement of Obama,” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “There can be no other explanation for it.”

“What Colin Powell needs to do is close the loop and become a Democrat, instead of claiming to be a Republican interested in reforming the Republican Party. He's not. He's a full-fledged Democrat,” Limbaugh said.

“He's out there saying I am killing the Republican Party while he endorsed and voted for Obama,” Limbaugh added. “The Republican Party nominated the exact kind of candidate Colin Powell thinks the Republican Party should have and he still endorsed Obama.”

Speaking Sunday to CNN host Fareed Zakaria asked Powell if Republicans can “continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?"

“Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?" Powell replied.

I'm with Rush. Anyone claiming to be a Republican that can back Obama's policies is not a Republican. He's the polar opposite on virtually every issue.

Rush Limbaugh has an audience of 20 million, on average.

But he's still a negative to the GOP. The Repubs need more than the Limbaugh listeners.

And to say Powell endorsed Obama based on race is not provable. Powell is worked in many GOP administrations, and many Repubs and Independents endorsed Obama.

    Even William Buckley Jr.

Keep talking Rush. You're brining the GOP down. The GOP is now a small club.

    It's based on statistics.

Things can change in 18 months (next round of mid-term elections) and they can change in 3.5 years.

But the GOP has to change its brand and get a message that will appeal to the broader public.

I think American have quit believing this too. And many have moved away from "terrorism!"

The 2004 Presidential campaign played the terrorist card to ridiculous levels - even only 3 years after 9/11.

    It's old hat.

You have a higher chance of drowning that being killed in a terrorist attack.

There will be another one some day, IMO. Maybe big, maybe small. That's the way it is. Intell is set up for it, and adapting everyday.

Without the terrorist card, small government card, tax-cut card, and "anti-gay" card, the GOP club is a small club.

Now THAT is something you and I can agree on. The GOP needs to return to conservatism. REAL conservatism, not this compassionate crap that Bush I started. Ever since he came out with that load of bull the party has been going down hill. It's time to get back to basics and kick some candy liberal ass.

They wanted us to lose. If Republican's talked like this, I'd leave the party.. no matter who the President was that started it. It's treasonous.

The sad part is so many people latched on to the "Bush lied" farce.

I don't understand how people can see this particular video and still cling to it.

Bush's speech at the end of this video is fantastic.

We lost in Iraq? I thought that Mission was Accomplished? Well if they were only rooting for another country to fail that's better than rooting for the US of A to fail at least in my patriotic opinion.....

    OK. Thanks for responding.

    Honest question:

    1. What is victory in Iraq for the Americans?

    2. What is defeat for the Americans?

    In your opinion. TIA.

This is what I'm hearing from troops that have been or are in the area:
Iraqis are tired of being blown up and are realizing its not the Americans/coalition troops doing most of it. I hear how Iraqis are also forming street patrols/neighborhood watches...will come up to our troops and report knowing where insurgents are. Either WE go take care of them, or they will.
Victory is that we are helping them put in place a stable government where terrorist cannot use as a 'strong hold.
Defeat is just pulling out like we did in Gulf I and Vietnam...just leave the place in chaos.
Now...Afghanistan...we're fuqqed here. We are NOT leaving here for a LONG time. This place is in shambles. As I hear from the troops (again) that there is not any real sense of country. Everything seems to stem from family/clan/religion.
If we leave here now...the insurgants will come back (strong men type take over) will have a safe-haven to operate from and we WILL have another 9/11 event.
I've heard that from our troops, as well as from Romanians and the French I've made friends with say the same...

....what WOULD be nice, if the rest of the world would step up and help out. ...isn't that what the UN is SUPPOSED to do?
Our Chinese and Arab 'friends' with the deep pockets are doing...absoloute...fuq-all towards the situation.

^^ I know people who did tours (Many who did 2 tours) and I know independent contractors in Iraq, also.

    My point is:

A Shiite government is not a victory for the Americans.

The Americans have lost (not profit sharing but consulting in the oil) and the winners are:

    Iran.

I'd rather not get into a debate about the Iraq war again.. why we are there, what the goals are.

My point was that the Democrats wanted us to lose because it helps them politically.
